Job Description



PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The medical scribe serves as an important part of MBI Health Services, LLC medical team by assisting physicians, nurse practitioners and other staff during/after their patient’s clinical visits. The primary responsibility of a medical scribe is documenting information, charting medical/clinical data and inputting the information into electronic systems as needed. The scribe serves as the documenter of relevant notes and medical data that traditionally would be recorded by the provider.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Accurately and thoroughly document medical/clinical visits, and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, including but not limited to:

  • Transcribe physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up
  • Spot mistakes or inconsistencies in medical documentation and check to correct the information to reduce errors.
  • Ensure that all clinical data, lab or other test results, the interpretation of the results by the physician are recorded accurately in the medical record or designated database.
  • Comply with specific standards that apply to the style of medical records and to the legal and ethical requirements for preparing medical documents and for keeping patient information confidential.
  • Collect, organize and catalog data for Physician Quality Reporting System and other quality improvement efforts and format for submission.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining systems to track patient follow up and compliance.
  • Proofread and edit all the physician’s medical documents for accuracy, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Develop and manage provider schedules.
  • Make phone calls, and other clerical tasks as assigned.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a two-year degree, or two years or more experience in a medical, health services or other related office.
  • Certification as Medical Scribe Professional (Preferred)
  • Medical coding training or certification
  • Experience with use of Credible, or other electronic health services data bases.
  • Must be available whenever physician is working. Saturdays, early mornings, late evenings may be required.
  • Travel to multiple sites may be required on a regular basis.
  • Proficient in typing and good at spelling, punctuation, grammar, and oral communication.
  • Must be able to listen to complex medical information and summarize in a clear, complete, and concise fashion.
  • Excellent English composition skills required to generate professional, polished writing at a high rate of production.
  • Handwriting must be clear and legible.
  • Understanding of medical terminology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments to the extent required to accurately transcribe dictated reports.
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft suite
  • Ability to learn and use all functions of electronic medical record software and transcription software.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The physical ability to travel to assigned locations as designated.
  • Move and lift light objects up to 30 pounds such as mail, supplies, files, and equipment.
  • Operating office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive hand/arm movements.
  • The ability to remain in a sitting position for extended periods of time.

Salary Range: $38,000.00 - $43,000.00
