About the Position
The purpose of this position is to support Goodyear’s business by motivating team members to meet department safety expectations, quality standards productivity goals & Goodyear policies. This is a transition position into Chief Supervisor & requires a balance of operation on-floor skills & the learning of new Supervisory skills. This person will perform functions expected of both on-floor working associates & the Supervisor.
This position requires demonstrated expertise in performing all the tests in assigned areas. Advanced on all tests in area and able to provide training. Capable of self-directed work and able to lead group projects. Able to perform mid to high levels of troubleshooting on tests and equipment. Capable of performing data interpretations. Can create and develop new lab test procedures. As a Working Supervisor, this individual serves as a mentor to less-experienced technicians and provides technical support as needed. This position may be in a facility that requires shift work, including evenings, nights, and weekends.

Primary Responsibilities

• Complete mixing or testing of rubber compounds/ tires in a timely manner with attention to detail and quality. Understand test methods, test equipment, test samples, recognize errors and suggest improvements. Ensure test machines are not sitting idle in assigned area. Maximize productivity of assigned test area by optimizing organization of work.
• Perform machine verification and safety checks. Complete layered audits as scheduled Support the responsibilities of the supervisor. Ensure & validate that the output of the work group meets currently quality standards. Investigate & resolve personnel issues associated with performance, attendance, teamwork, work responsibilities & safety. Support special requests for customers.
• Act as a back-up to Chief supervisor & perform as the Chief Supervisor during absences. Lead occurring meetings such as safety & daily on-shift meetings.
• Mentor, Motivate & guide team members to meet department productivity goals. Assist team members to ensure proper methods & procedures are followed, especially ensuring safe work practices & promoting a safe work atmosphere. Review training record to ensure task proficiency and completed refresher training as needed. Perform machine verification and safety checks. Complete layered process audits per assigned schedule.
• Provide training to other lab associates on testing. Writing new lab test procedures
• Perform departmental or shift documentation such as daily assignments, logbooks, audits, work routings & daily metrics. Perform on-shift audits. Ensure no impact on quality due to contamination or confusion data or samples.

Required Education and Experience

• High School Diploma/GED is required
• Associate degree in a STEM-related field is preferred
• 10-12 years as Lab Tech or lab experience OR 7-9 years as Lab Tech WITH Associate Degree in relevant STEM field

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Teamwork and collaboration skills Fluent in Office tools to communicate and perform
• statistical numerical comparisons (Outlook, Word, Excel, Minitab or other SPC/statistical tool)
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Ability to follow explicit, documented procedures
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Willingness to train, teach and mentor less-experienced associates
