Home Chef's Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the Production department and managing multiple Shift Managers in a multi-shift environment with 200 + full-time associates on a daily basis. The Operations Manager is responsible for directly leading and managing the production team and partnering across departments within the plant to convert raw product into meal kits efficiently and with high quality.

Coaching & Development:

  • Builds strong working relationships with all Shift Managers, supervisors and employees and continually strives to help all levels grow and improve in their roles
  • Sets clear performance targets for Shift Managers and discusses progress against plan on a daily basis
  • Ensures Shifts Managers are effectively utilizing all standard tools
  • Helps to create a coaching culture by providing both positive and developmental feedback to shift managers, supervisors and employees
  • Assists all levels within the organization with problem solving issues impacting production
  • Helps develop effective people management skills of shift managers, supervisors and leads
  • As necessary, resolves personnel problems by investigating issues, identifying solutions, and recommending action while treating employees with respect through the process.

Production Planning:

  • Takes ownership of production plan for both upcoming and current menu
  • Partners with procurement team to establish delivery timelines for all products on upcoming menus
  • Sets daily shift-level production targets for labeling, portioning, meal bagging, and boxing
  • Proactively collaborates with other plants to share best practices
  • Continually learns from experience to improve production KPIs over time
  • Communicates with plant management throughout Home Chef when issues arise that will affect all operations

Food & Employee Safety: 

  • Ensures all Home Chef GMP’s and operational guidelines are being followed and enforced.
  • Follows and adheres to all safety protocols set forth by Home Chef including but not limited to: Lock out/Tag out procedure, instilling and ensuring a safe work environment, housekeeping in all areas, ensuring all employees are follows proper safety guidelines
  • Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources; ensures adherence to established policies and procedures
  • Drives and improvement adherence to safety observations and checks to ensure all mgmnt is following guidelines

SOPs & Audits

  • Partners with Continuous Improvement (CI) team in development of new SOPs and modifications to existing SOPs 
  • Knows and drives adherence to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for production, warehouse, and quality departments 
  • Supports SOPs audit program as defined and conducted by the CI team 
  • Owns all plant specific Production SOPs and ensures documents are kept up to date in SOP database

Communication & Leadership

  • Drives strong communication across shifts and departments by ensuring huddles and daily communications are completed effectively 
  • Demonstrates willingness to work flexible shifts in order to devote equal attention to all shifts
  • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with Asst plant manager and Home Chef leadership, across other departments (warehouse, maintenance, FSQA, HR, and procurement), and within production team
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies

KPI Management

  • Responsible for managing direct labor on a weekly basis, including but not limited to scheduling to meet labor KPIs and making adjustments as needed to ensure 100% order fulfillment
  • Provides shift level labor targets to shift managers and provides feedback to shift managers on labor performance and error percentage from previous day
  • Owns communication of weekly KPIs to department managers and ensures relevant KPIs are being appropriately communicated to supervisors leads, and hourlies
  • Must adhere to budget protocol for the building, reviewed with asst PM on a weekly basis

General Responsibilities:

  • Follow the facility GMPs and help enforce them throughout the facility
  • Support the efforts of the company to maintain our food safety system (SQF) and quality programs
  • Completion of a two-year program such as an Associate degree
  • 3+ years of proven direct supervision and management experience (Food Manufacturing preferred)
  • Experience in food manufacturing highly desirable
  • Experience with Sanitation and Quality Policies and Procedures highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflict, build consensus, and facilitate problem-solving and collaboration amongst cross functional teams

Salary Range: $115,000-$125,000 + Bonus Opportunity
