Position Purpose:

This new position will support a robust communications program that elevates the profile of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and creates a culture of pride and excellence. The manager drives the creation of compelling content that engages faculty, staff, students, alums, and the public. A staff member in the Office of Communications, the manager reports to the director of communications for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The position can be performed remotely, on-site, or in a hybrid fashion.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp:

Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, or related field.
  • 4-6 years of experience working in communication.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing and editing complex content based on target audience, with ability to provide context and/or reshape material as needed in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
  • Experience with key communications technologies, including but not limited to Canva, Drupal, third-party email systems, and social media management systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects from inception to completion, adhering to deadlines, within budget, and with high quality.
  • Ability to develop and execute a communications strategy for a dynamic department within a complex organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build consensus among diverse groups of people.
  • Superb writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated initiative; outcome-driven, resourceful, and committed to excellence.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a collaborative team.

Content Management

  • Develops compelling, on-brand web content, including news items, feature stories, and Q&A-style interviews that highlight Arts and Sciences faculty, staff, and initiatives.
  • Creates engaging social media content across platforms and leads new Arts and Sciences Instagram account. Adapts text, photography, video, and graphics for social platforms.
  • Drives the production of Arts and Sciences newsletters and HTML messages, including a biweekly faculty and staff newsletter.
  • Reports on digital analytics (web, newsletter, social) and makes recommendations to improve performance. Leads A/B testing to improve performance.

Coordination and Collaboration

  • Collaborates with stakeholders across Arts and Sciences to develop content for social media, websites, and newsletters.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to update and enhance website content and optimize accessibility.

  • Maintains and updates Arts and Sciences websites, updating and posting content as needed.
  • Conducts content audits, creates site maps, migrates content, and performs other web-related duties.

Event Marketing

  • Develops and leads marketing strategy and implementation for select Arts and Sciences events.
  • Reports on marketing metrics and makes recommendations to improve performance.
