Summary

Regularly provides engineering services in an engineering discipline, as a project/program leader, or in an area of technical specialty, in a technically sound, safe, timely, and cost-effective manner to enable SRP to realize its goals and objectives for providing reliable and sustainable energy.

What You'll Do

• Performs meter engineering design, analysis, and studies on projects associated with Power Purchase agreements (PPAs), Energy Storage Service Agreements (ESSAs), and Power Service Agreements that interconnect to SRP’s grid.
• Develops advanced concepts and metering schemes for Co-Located/Hybrid Inverter Based Resources (IBRs), Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), and Microgrids.
• Participates and leads technical requirements for Substation Metering with internal/external committees such as Operational Readiness, IEEE, and ANSI.
• Reviews and provides technical feedback that meet SRP and ANSI substation metering requirements to Interconnect Consultants for Co-Located/Hybrid IBRs and Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). 
• Leads Substation Metering by determining impacts or solutions to changing technologies and periodically reviewing industry trends.
• Prepares specifications, evaluates bids, and prepares recommendation materials for management consideration when evaluating next generation revenue meter.
• May prepare and/or conduct written and oral reports and presentations to upper management.
• Actively mentors engineers on technical requirements related to metering projects and concepts, and/or best practices related activities.
• Leads and coordinates collaboration with both internal and external customers including outside utilities, interconnection customers, vendors, and manufacturers.
• Represents SRP in legal and regulatory matters or proceedings related to metering when required.
• Performs reviews, evaluates, and provides technical advisement towards changes of NERC/CIP regulatory standards that impact substation metering devices.
• Demonstrates substantive thought leadership to further new ideas, products, services, and/or business processes to increase efficiency, effectiveness, and/or customer satisfaction.
• Demonstrates substantive leadership in organizational change management to foster the success of new business products, services, and/or business processes.
• Responsible for the operation, maintenance, performance, and health of Substation Meter devices and data systems support beyond the meter applications.
• Develops test strategies and test plans for hardware, firmware, application software and other integrated systems, such as beyond the metering platforms. Develops test data, performs test analysis, and documents test results.

 

What It Takes To Succeed

Ten (10) years full time professional experience actively engaged in engineering practice.

Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work as defined for this position.

Contributed to the authoring, publishing and/or presenting of internal or external technical papers.

 

Education:

EITHER I OR II

I - Completion of a bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA)

And

1. Additional specialty training (MS Engineering, MBA, or 18 graduate level college semester hours from an accredited institution in an engineering related field)

OR

2. Any state or internationally recognized Professional Engineering registration by the International Professional Engineers Agreement.

 

II - Any state or internationally recognized Professional Engineering registration by the International Professional Engineers Agreement.

And

Additional specialty training (18 graduate level college semester hours from an accredited institution)

Experience

  • Demonstrated network of internal and external contacts including customers, outside agencies, and suppliers of significant equipment and services.
  • Occasional travel to suppliers' facilities, industry functions, and SRP facilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with various organizations within SRP. Ability to use engineering tools required for the job.
  • Understand and interpret ANSI C12 Standards applicable to metering accuracy and testing of Instrument Transformers and Metering devices.
  • Working knowledge of electric utility system including the different aspects of metering and beyond the metering hardware and firmware, communications, programs, and system interactions.
  • Understanding of communication network concepts and experience in configuring TCP/IP Settings within the metering device.
  • Understanding of MV90 and DNP Protocol that provide metering data to billing and operations systems for support. 
  • High-level understanding of generation resources including Inverter Based Resources that interconnect to transmission and distribution systems.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical specifications, electrical system schematics and other technical documentation with ability to recognize and effectively communicate elevant information to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to organize and write accurate technical reports, procedural manuals and other technical documentation as well as prepare summary reports.

Testing and Certifications

Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.

 

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona. We are taking steps to protect the health and well-being of all team members, and by following a number of health and safety protocols, to reduce the risk of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
