Job Description - LSL Interdisciplinary Education Specialist SR

Utah State University’s Department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education (COMDDE) invites applications for an Education Specialist SR in Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) Deaf Education beginning August 2024. This benefited position is full-time for 9 months during the USU academic year, and is available as campus-based or via remote work.

 

The LSL Interdisciplinary program offers a unique distance learning option for students who wish to earn a Master of Education degree in LSL Deaf Education or a post-master’s LSL Certificate as off-campus students. The primary responsibilities for this position are to provide mentoring and supervision to distance students as they complete the direct service practicum requirements specific to their program, teach graduate courses, and to work alongside the program director to support overall practicum management. Applicants seeking to work remotely must be able to fulfill position responsibilities in a HIPAA-compliant, disruption-free space.

 


Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

  • Provide supervision and mentoring to distance graduate students in the Master of Education program and the LSL post-masters Certificate program as they complete their direct services practicum requirements. This will also include meeting with external collaborators to coordinate practicum details and to support students in meeting Utah Deaf Education Professional Educator licensure requirements.
  • Teach synchronous and/or asynchronous graduate courses and provide general program support in student recruitment and admissions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Speech-Language Pathology, or related field, with LSL expertise.
  • Two years of professional experience in serving young children who are DHH who are developing and using listening and spoken language, including a basic understanding of current hearing technology.
  • Demonstrated potential to provide graduate student supervision to effectively support and promote student competencies in delivering evidence-based, family-centered LSL services.
  • Ability to fulfill program responsibilities in a HIPAA-compliant, disruption-free space if seeking remote work.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in graduate student mentoring or supervision in LSL deaf education services.
  • LSLS Cert. AVEd. or LSLS Cert. AVT
  • Experience in teaching online and/or distance education delivery.
  • Experience in providing family-centered services using tele-intervention.

The department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education (COMDDE) includes audiology, deaf education, and speech-language pathology. COMDDE offers undergraduate and graduate programs, including PhD opportunities in neuroscience and disability disciplines within the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services. COMDDE provides real-world learning opportunities for students in the Sorenson Legacy Foundation Center for Clinical Excellence (Hearing and Balance clinic; Speech & Language clinc, Pediatric Audiology, and Cochlear Implant clinics) and in our early education program for deaf and hard of hearing children, Sound Beginings.
