What is a Youth Mentor? A youth mentor is an adult who provides guidance, support, and encouragement to a young person to help them navigate life's challenges and develop personally. Mentors can act as role models, teachers, counselors, and advocates, and can help young people establish goals, develop positive aspirations, and access opportunities. Calo's big hairy audacious goal is to lead the way in driving teen and young adult anxiety, depression, and suicide from the all-time highs of today to all-time lows by 2028.

Calo Programs is a highly regarded, comprehensive residential treatment program that offers some of the most innovative and clinically advanced treatment approaches, and was created with the need for specialty care in mind. Our sole focus is helping preteens and teens with a history of developmental trauma complicated by adoption. No other program can say that.

  • Encourage fun in our “Milieu” (an atmosphere largely devoid of negative influences) where students learn socialization skills
  • Work as part of a team to help students move toward healing
  • Accompany students on outings and Adventure Therapy
  • Participate in animal-assisted therapy that emulates the human foster/adoption process and teaches caring and healthy attachment

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Some experience working with preteens in a residential setting is helpful but not necessary
  • Is able to pass State and Federal background checks
