Job Description - Research Scientist/engineer

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for Research Scientist/ Engineer 2. The employee will work in the Immunology Division of the Dept of Laboratory Medicine to support research and help develop novel immunoassays and protein chemistry assays. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES * Design experiments to adapt ELISA platform and related assays to multiplex bead platform, and perform experiments on both platforms (35%).
* Design or adapt and carry out experiments characterizing antibodies and immunoglobulins, including immunoglobulin glycosylation, involved in autoimmune diseases and tumor immunology using immunocapture, mass spectrometry and capillary electrophoresis (30%).
* Adapt manual immunofluorescence microscopy to automated platforms (30%).
* Write reports describing experimental results and prepare detailed protocols describing laboratory methods, and presentation of laboratory results at laboratory meetings (5%). MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in laboratory-based biology, chemistry, immunology science or other related fields and two years of relevant experience related to automated microscopy, capillary electrophoresis OR Equivalent combination of education/experience. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
