Job Description - Safety Analyst - Pacific Region

Location - Remote - Must be located in the Pacific Region ( WA, OR, ID, CA, NV, UT, AZ, AK, HI)

The Safety Analyst plays a key role in achieving Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s quality assurance goals of a maintaining safe, nurturing Boys & Girls Club environment while ensuring compliance to recognized safety standards. The Safety Analyst conducts organization and site-level safety assessments to evaluate the Organizational climate and to assess conformance with regarding child and Club safety practices and procedures, policies and standards. Additionally, the Safety Analyst evaluates policies and assessments conducted by others, disseminating their findings to staff and board members. Collaboration with fellow safety team members is also integral to ensure comprehensive support for member organizations in their endeavors to uphold safe environments for youth and teenagers.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

Safety Assessments
• Conduct thorough organizational level and site-level safety assessments.
• Collect and review internal and external documentation in advance of all visits.
• Conduct opening conference sessions with Club leadership to establish comfort/understanding about the process and to ensure a spirit of mutual respect and accountability.
• Evaluate the safety culture and organizational alignment with the Movement’s Layers of Protection Strategy.
• Review conformance with BGCA membership requirements and applicable safety standards, including OSHA, DOT and ANSI standards.
• Evaluate the capabilities of the organization/club site to determine relevant risks and opportunities.
• Identify opportunities for continuously improving the safety system, including identification, and sharing of good practices.
• Resolve obstacles encountered during the assessment such as diverging opinions between the Analyst and the Club CEO
• Analyze incidents and safety data to proactively identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Ensure immediate triage and support is provided for any high-risk observations or findings.

 

Reporting and Documentation
• Ensure that the assessment findings and conclusions are based only on objective evidence.
• Prepare detailed reports summarizing risk assessment findings, including recommended mitigation strategies and tactics.
• Develop an improvement plan outlining specific corrective action steps with timeframes, responsibilities and other details for re-mediating nonconformities.
• Communicate effectively with Club leaders in person, virtually and through written follow-up correspondence, to ensure comprehensive understanding of the assessment results and recommendations.

 

Risk Mitigation
• Provide policy interpretations and basic safety corrections while onsite regarding facility operation, staffing and operational requirements.
• Assign appropriate timelines for remediation with a follow-up cadence, coordinating with Lead Directors and/or Compliance Department as required.
• Facilitate follow up actions to address areas of non-compliance, including safety director involvement and/or peer consultations. SUPERVISION EXERCISED
• No direct reports. May monitor and coordinate the work of temporary employees and student interns.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in youth development, safety, risk management or related field, or, equivalent work experience
• 3-5 years’ experience as an Analyst or similar position
• Experience in conducting onsite assessments
• Experience managing regional travel up to 75% of the time, including overnight stays
• Experience with Risk Management and Mitigation
• Knowledgeable in Abuse Prevention and/or Youth Services
• Experience with MS Word, Excel, Project Management and Analytics software
• Possess expert knowledge of risk management and control, premises liability, security, property hazards, sports and aquatic safety, emergency response planning/procedures, vehicular safety, bullying, and child abuse. Ability to effectively use technology while traveling.

 

SKILLS
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong presentation skills with the ability to persuade people at different Organizational levels.
• Sensitive to any influences that may be exerted on their judgement while carrying out an assessment
• Ability to exhibit professional skepticism and emotional intelligence
• Ability to collect, analyze data, and make objective decisions based on information.
• Ability to work interdepartmentally to get results.

 

ABILITIES
• Physical requirements include sight, hearing, sitting for four plus hours per day. High energy level, comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities. Ability to get along with diverse personalities, at all times displaying tact, maturity, flexibility and empathy. Must have good reasoning abilities and sound judgment; skills essential for successful communication include speaking and writing.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL & WORKING CONDITIONS

• Normal internal working environment.
• Travel, including overnight travel, estimated at 75%.
• The individual selected for this position must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to navigate areas of the country by using a map or other direction methods.
