Job Description and Duties

THIS POSITION MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR A HYBRID WORK SCHEDULE. THE AMOUNT OF TELEWORK IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE DEPARTMENT AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS BUSINESS NEEDS ARISE.

Are you looking for a fast-paced and challenging position that will provide you with extremely valuable software development and leadership experience, variety of assignments, and exposure to multiple levels of management and staff in the Employment Development Department (EDD), Information Technology Branch? The EDD is looking for a highly motivated and qualified individual to work in the State Disability Insurance (SDI) Online Section as a Software Developer.

 This position reports to the SDI Development Manager and performs a wide range of object-oriented development and analytical responsibilities on various projects in support of the SDI applications. The Developer will work with customers to identify and define problems or issues, analyze and document business requirements, triage and develop new code as well as maintain existing code working through the System Development Life cycle.  On projects, developer experiences range from assisting with Project Management tasks and managing schedules to facilitating meetings and presenting solutions in addition to their coding assignments.

 The successful candidate has excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, the ability to prioritize multiple tasks with competing deadlines, and can work independently as well as part of a team.

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change as business needs arise. Employees are required to report to their headquarters office on their assigned in-office days. Travel expenses to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Hands on experience with object-oriented programming and languages (C#, JavaScript, etc.).
  • Experience as a software developer leveraging with C#.NET, ASP.NET 4.7 or above, Microsoft Visual Studio 2017 or above, Microsoft SQL 2016 or above, JavaScript, Bootstrap, JQuery and Azure DevOps to deliver solutions.
  • Experience developing and consuming Web Services, Micro Services and/or APIs within the Microsoft .NET Framework.
  • Experience with the Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC), planning, collaborating and facilitating technical work efforts.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server Integration Services and SQL Server Reporting Services.
  • The individual should have strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to clearly articulate thoughts to explain technologies, processes, and products to customers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power point.
