Job Description - Shift Manager

Qualifications for this role include:

  • bachelor's degree in Engineering, Food Science/Food Safety, or a related field
  • at least three years of experience leading a team in a food/beverage/pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
  • strong verbal and written communication skills
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • ability to make good judgments for on-the-spot problem-solving
  • experience in a Union environment leadership role is preferred

Additionally, the ideal candidate should have knowledge of:

  • continuous improvement initiatives
  • 5 S
  • Six Sigma

Vacancy description

Accountabilities

  • manage production activities on the floor, providing direction and communicating with key stakeholders
  • collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize production schedules and targets, minimize downtime and unnecessary overtime
  • ensure health and safety, regulatory and quality protocols are always in place; proactively enforce compliance and intervene in non-compliance
  • develop the skill set of the team to perform the job effectively and efficiently; proactively provide feedback
  • manage the mindset and behavior of their shift and take corrective action as required
  • lead communications between all employees and be proactive with leading performance feedback
  • maintain inventory and ensure documentation of batch reports, OEE, and handover reports

As part of the site leadership team, actively participate in:

  • process improvement projects, committees, working groups, and reporting
  • employment matters (interviewing, training, coaching, leave of absence, etc.)
  • management of timecards, adjusting in compliance with CBA and company policies
  • monitor equipment performance and production KPIs/Metrics, analyze trends, and implement continuous improvement initiatives
  • enforce compliance related to Union CBA, regulatory, quality, company policies, SOPs
  • review and develop SOPs, training shifts and implement changes
  • proactively assist when and where needed
