DESCRIPTION
The Amazon Chime SDK telephony team owns the infrastructure and services that support critical telecommunications workloads for our customers, including PSTN connectivity, event-driven voice and telephony applications, and integrating their infrastructure with Machine Learning and Generative AI services. We also own the cloud services/APIs and AWS Console experience that enable customers to configure call routing and streaming capabilities. Our customer span various industries including Call Centers, Securities Trading, Financial service providers, Tax service providers, and Communication service providers.
Key job responsibilities
We are looking for a highly effective software development engineer that can make an immediate difference and help design and deliver systems while maintaining a constant customer focus. You will work with your peers and product management team to tackle hard problems with a growing AWS service.
A day in the life
- Work with peers on ongoing customer deliverables.
- Design upcoming capabilities, drive consensus across the tech and product teams.
- Look for endemic service deficiencies and solve them at scale.
- Mentor your peers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience with SIP, RTP, and other VoIP concepts
- Experience with telecom industry problem sets, including Local Number Portability (LNP), SMS, and IMS/Intelligent Network design
- Familiar with open source SIP stacks
- Experience writing unit and system level tests using dependency injection frameworks and object mocking.
- Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment
- Experience building services on AWS

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
