Description:

The Crisis Interventionist is responsible for providing crisis intervention, assessment, counseling, and behavioral health support to members. The Crisis interventionist primarily provides support and crisis intervention at the member’s home or in the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides behavioral health support to members and families in crisis and post crisis.
  • Deescalates crisis situations and assesses for danger to self and danger for others.
  • Assesses and provides crisis intervention services to members and their families.
  • Completes screeners, assessments, crisis plans, intake paperwork, and any other paperwork needed to stabilize a crisis or enroll a new member.
  • Coordinates care with member’s clinical team and conducts CFTs and ARTs to ensure member has appropriate services for their clinical needs.
  • Coordinates care with inpatient hospitals, emergency room departments, crisis centers, residential treatment facilities, and other placements as necessary.
  • Arranges hospital discharge appointments.
  • Split shift/Flexible work schedule requires after hours and on the weekends per member need.
  • Facilitates connecting member to their appropriate clinical team member.
  • Responds to requests for documentation or information about a member from community providers, hospitals, or Crisis Response Center (CRC).
  • Completes enrollment and crisis planning with Hospitals and CRC when an urgent enrollment is needed.
  • Documents all interactions in member’s individual charts.
  • Work with families and children that require a high level of services provision, contact and coordination of treatment
  • Work collaboratively with other systems such as Juvenile/Adult Detention, Juvenile/Adult Probation, Division of Disabilities, Department of Child Safety/Adult Protective Services, and other Behavioral Health entities.
  • Continues the assessment process over the course of behavioral health process including the continued identification of the child and family strengths, needs and culture and monitors progress toward treatment goals.
  • May provide individual, family, and/or group counseling based on needs as determined by the Clinical Supervisor/Director.
Requirements:

BHT:

Behavioral Health Technicians have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED and one year of behavioral health or related work/volunteer experience or one year of college or have four years of full-time work experience in behavioral health or related services or peer/family support certificate.

BHP:

Behavioral Health Professional have a minimum of an associate license in social work, counseling, marriage and family, or substance abuse recognized by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners.

Skills/Job Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Training and experience in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Child development and human development across the life span.
  • Adult, Child and Infant Mental Health principles, methods, procedures, and standards.
  • Has a strong clinical knowledge.
  • Utilize DSM-V to provide diagnoses for older children, adolescents and adults and the crosswalk to the DC-0-5 to provide diagnoses or diagnostic impressions for young children.
  • Extensive knowledge of managed care systems, AHCCCS/Title XIX medical assistance screening, and health plan policies and practices. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with well-developed problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, project management and multitasking skills.
  • Skill in using business software such as email, MS Office, smart phones, office equipment and electronic health records.
  • Flexibility and ability to respond to changing priorities.
  • Must be reliable and punctual.
  • Displays cultural sensitivity and demonstrates the ability to form constructive and collaborative working relationships with others from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate in a culturally inclusive manner and being open to other people’s differences.

Regulatory Requirements:

  • Report suspected neglect/abuse to Department of Child Safety and Adult Protective Services and supervisor, and promptly complete required documentation.
  • Comply with privacy laws and requirements under HIPAA regulations.
  • Comply with Duty to warn mandates when assessing danger to self and danger to others.
  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Clean criminal background check and the ability to obtain and maintain an AZ DPS Level 1 fingerprint clearance card.
  • Current valid, unrestricted driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a driving record that meets the standards of the agency.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):

  • Requires individual to be highly engaged to perform the daily activities of a primarily direct service nature.
  • Requires standing, walking, sitting, stooping, bending, and squatting.
  • Requires extensive typing and writing.
  • Requires flexibility in scheduling and prioritizing changing demands.
  • Weekends and later hours required.
