Create, and execute linear, nonlinear, and quasi-static nonlinear Finite Element Analyses (FEA) of conventional ICE passenger vehicle and Battery Electric Vehicle exterior systems including bumpers, fascias, grilles, assist steps, spoilers, lamps, and luggage racks, to meet frequency, thermal, fatigue, solar exposure, and low speed impact targets for GM global performance requirements, using NASTRAN, OptiStruct, HyperWorks, LS-DYNA, ANSA, META, Primer, nCode, SimSolid, and Genesis CAE tools. Attend physical tests and tear downs and correlate finite element simulation results to physical test. Use CAE analysis to explain physical test results and to resolve validation issues. Present CAE results to cross functional teams. Use and apply topology optimization techniques, and Design of Experiments methodology, to identify architectural load paths to close the gap to requirements and implement enablers into released algorithms, and determine dynamic response of vehicle structure and develop cost effective and mass optimized vehicle exteriors.
Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field, and one (1) year of experience as an Engineer or related role. Must also have experience with: creating and executing Finite Element Analyses (FEA) of a body in white (BIW), exterior, or bumper beam system to meet frequency, thermal, fatigue, and low speed impact performance requirements, using NASTRAN, LS-DYNA, and META tools, or related.
