Job Description - Vp of finance

Position Description:

Oversees the fiscal operations of the organization and its affiliates, and provides support to the SVP, CFO and senior management in the form of reports and analyses to assist in ensuring overall financial health and stability for Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona (GCNA) and its affiliated entities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees GCNA’s compliance with required regulatory and tax filings.
  • Assists in the development of reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanisms that include minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.
  • Manages financials for multiple corporations in compliance with GAAP.
  • Manages GCNA’s treasury function including banking relationships and debt financing.
  • Holds primary responsibility for the preparation of GCNA’s annual operating and capital budget.
  • Oversees all forecasting and planning efforts.
  • Prepares and presents financial data and business plans to the Board of Directors and appropriate Committees on behalf of the CFO in his/her absence.
  • Optimizes the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.
  • Oversight of the negotiation and execution of purchase orders or vendor contracts as needed to support the critical business needs.
  • Responsible for the production of variance, ratio and other analyses.
  • Assists the CFO to plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization’s fiscal function and performance.
  • Assists the CFO to evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning. Provides timely and reliable financial data to the CFO.
  • Incorporates business excellence into the finance and purchasing units.
  • Enhances or develops, implements and enforces policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation.
  • Stays current with principles and practices relating to internal controls, segregation of duties, GAAP, OMB Circulars, and other best practices and requirements for the Finance Department, and fiduciary responsibilities of GCNA. Makes recommendations to CFO regarding those best practices, policies, procedures, and overall process improvement.
  • Responsible for performance management (coaching, discipline, performance improvement plans, and annual reviews), staffing, compensation, and development of team members.
  • Maintains regular and consistent in-person attendance.

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or related field/MBA preferred/CPA designation required.
  • 15+ years accounting experience, including upper management.
  • Experience in budgeting, financial management and analysis.
  • Proficient knowledge of GAAP and the not-for-profit industry.
  • Demonstrated computer and technology skills, including accounting systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Well versed in applicable compliance issues, laws and government regulations as they apply to the organization and its operational lines.
  • Excellent organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple demands and priorities. Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication skills and proven leadership ability.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen, where applicable for position.
  • Ability to speak and read English proficiently.
