Web Applications Developer - Back-end About the Opportunity The division of Information Technology Services is currently seeking a talented individual to fill the role of Back-end Developer position. As a Back-end Developer, you will be part of a cross-functional team responsible for supporting the team's application codebases, including documentation of current codebase and implementation of back-end features. To ensure that essential services are provided to the university community, the employee will be required to work outside their regular working hours as needed. This is a Hybrid position, 3 days per week onsite is required. Regrettably, the university is unable to work sponsor for this role, now or in the future. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Experience as a system administrator of critical production web services.
- 5+ years' experience designing and implementing web applications or websites that leverage content management systems like WordPress, Drupal, or Contentful. This includes writing front and back-end code, ensuring solutions are operating to a degree of high performance, and identifying and fixing bugs that are found within code.
- Experience with Linux system administration.
- Support teams in evaluating detailed requirements and provide suggestions for development.
- Experience with Code repos - Branching, merging, deploying.
- Experience in one or more back-end programming languages (Python, PHP, TypeScript/ES6)
- Experience working with Relational and non-relational databases (MySQL is preferred)
- Experience working with APIs, including creating API endpoints for consumption by other websites or applications.
- Experience with programming concepts such as OOP and MVC
- Familiarity with Cloud Infrastructure and Platform Services (AWS, Azure, Rackspace, Pantheon)
- Familiarity with Agile project methodology and tools (Scrum, Jira)
- Familiarity with DevOps concepts (CI/CD, Automation, SCM)
- Familiarity but not required with DevOps platforms (GitHub)
- Excellent Communication and teamwork skills
- Be a role model for an open, honest, and inclusive approach to problem solving.
- Strong technical, cross group collaboration and communication skills
- Will be responsible for monitoring and fixing any OS issues as encountered
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES Application Development 50%
Work with technical and functional groups to provide systems analysis and design in support of development identified by specific user groups. Document technical and design specifications. Document current back-end codebases.
Support 30%
Provide Tier-2 customer support related to Web applications. Identify and perform root cause analysis. Serve as a technical contact to other ITS groups and University business units. Maintain the current back-end codebase.
Technical Architecture 20%
Work with technical and functional groups to provide recommendations on supporting highly scalable, fault tolerant and secure software.
