Job Description - CoOp DSDH Global Development

Janssen Research & Development, L.L.C., a division of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies is recruiting an Co-Op Data Scientist, in Janssen R&D Data Sciences. The R&D Data Science team within Janssen is driven to meaningfully change the trajectory of disease with transformational medicines to advance the care of patients in the communities we serve. The team uses a diverse set of data and tools, along with platform solutions to answer impactful analytical questions and inform key projects from discovery all the way through late development. This role sits within the Data Science & Digital Health team, and works cross-functionally to assess and implement innovative translational analytics and research that will inform trial decentralization and feasibility. This role's functions will support planned and ongoing trials in the Neuroscience therapeutic area, early trial feasibility, and ML methods to optimize protocol design and patient enrollment. Responsibilities: • Design and implement data pipelines, models, and integration solutions. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support data science initiatives in site selection and trial decentralization while ensuring data quality and accuracy. • Work with large datasets to extract and transform data for use in various applications. • Create and maintain documentation of data processes and procedures. • Develop and implement algorithms for data analysis and machine learning. • Communicate data-related findings and insights to stakeholders. Requirements: • Currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Biological/Biomedical Science, or related degrees (graduation date must extend past the Co-op program end date). • Possess a strong understanding of Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Biomedical Informatics, Digital Health, or related field as proven by current or prior coursework • Have experience with dashboard design and production in Tableau and RShiny • Have experience in building data pipelines or automated ETL processes in Python, SQL, R, etc. • Experience with data engineering and data science. • Familiarity with data modeling, data warehousing concepts, and proficiency in machine learning methods • Supervision of 1-2 additional project personnel within collaborative workstreams • Possess familiarity with exploring and conducting analyses on large datasets • Possess strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills (technical and/or business)• Strong interest in the exploration of innovative research using Digital Health, Real World Data, and gaining data domain knowledge • Intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and a collaborative work approach

Preferred: • Coursework or background in Computer Science, Information Systems, Biomedical Engineering, and other Life Sciences. • Prior experience through other internships/jobs with hands-on data engineering and data science. • Prior experience of small team/small group leadership and project management • Familiarity with decentralized clinical trial design or experience with federated learning approaches for machine learning models. • Prior independent, graduate, or classroom research experience on a data-focused project. • Familiarity with EHR and medical claims data • Able to travel at least 3 days/week to Janssen on-site location in La Jolla, California Johnson & Johnson is an Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Employer.
