Job Description Summary Responsible for developing, testing, and maintaining reports and dashboards for Finance and the business partner community to optimize reporting, analytics, and business processes in support of the University’s data-driven strategies. Effectively interprets business needs and delivers impactful and innovative reporting solutions through utilizing best in class business intelligence tools and optimizing University data sources. Other key responsibilities include supporting business intelligence toolset innovation, playing a pivot role in development of a data framework for reporting and analytics, ensuring data is appropriately protected, and supporting reporting systems application upgrades. Fosters collaborative relationships with stakeholders to achieve reporting and analytics goals. Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Reporting & Dashboard Development: Partners with stakeholders to gather business requirements and develop report specifications. Creates or enhances reports and dashboards. Ensures reports and dashboards are deployed to production in a timely manner, secured and shared appropriately.

  • Data Framework and Metadata Development: In partnership with the Finance Systems team, develops data framework and maintains a formal description of related metadata (i.e. data definitions, data models, data flow diagrams, etc.).

  • Tool Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Stays abreast of industry best practices and emerging trends in reporting and analytics, identifying opportunities for cutting edge technologies, process improvements and optimization.

  • Data Security: Develops, maintains and reviews application security access for reports to ensure internal controls are maintained systematically and data is protected from unauthorized access.

  • Quality Assurance and Testing: Conducts thorough quality assurance checks on reports to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established standards. Develops and executes detailed test plans to ensure that reports meet the original specifications and run efficiently, securely and correctly.

  • System Upgrade Support: Evaluates system impact as a result of available upgrades, including patches/fixes, and business change requests. Performs testing in collaboration with stakeholders, Information Systems, and third parties for supported application upgrades.

  • System Maintenance Support: Leads the investigation and resolution of reporting issues encountered by users. Logs support incidents and coordinates timely problem resolution with user and/or Information Systems staff as needed.

  • Performs other related functions and duties as required.

Other Functions:

  • Stakeholder Training: Utilizing reporting and analytics expertise, supports training initiatives to ensure toolsets, reports and dashboards are appropriately and effectively adopted.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business, accounting or computer science-related major and at least five years of experience with ERP reporting and related applications or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience creating compelling visualizations to communicate data insights effectively.

  • Extensive knowledge of reporting applications to include Workday Report Writer; PowerBI; data access tools (mySQL, Oracle, PL/SQL Developer). Knowledge of data warehousing, data modeling and ETL techniques. Advanced knowledge of SQL and ability to author complex SQL statements.

  • Exceptional organization skills, a detail orientation, and a proven ability to follow projects and issues through to completion.

  • Must be comfortable in an environment that places high emphasis on collaboration, continuous improvement, teamwork, and excellent customer service.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Experience with other reporting tools such as Cognos

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Access and Visio) and Google Workspace.

  • Knowledge of project management methodology and practices.

  • Experience in higher education and related best practices and leading-edge technologies.
