About the Department:

The Donald G. Costello College of Business at George Mason University is one of the largest business schools in Virginia, and is located near Washington, D.C., in Arlington and Fairfax, and at George Mason's global campus in Incheon, South Korea. Our faculty members have won coveted University and Professional Society awards for their research and teaching. Many of our faculty serve on editorial boards of leading journals, and all are active professionally in their respective fields.

About the Position:

The Information Systems and Operations Management (ISOM) area of the Donald G Costello College of Business at George Mason University has an opportunity for a Term Faculty (non-tenure track) appointment to teach Management Information Systems (MIS) courses. The position will start in Fall 2024. The rank assignment is contingent on the level and type of experience and education. This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience. This position does not support work visa sponsorship.

Teaches Management Information System courses in undergraduate and graduate programs. MIS faculty are part of the Information Systems and Operations Management (ISOM) area, one of the six areas of the Costello College of Business.

Responsibilities:

The teaching load for this position is based on the college's workload policy (18 or 24 credits annually depending on research publications). Additional responsibilities include research and service to the ISOM Area, the Costello College of Business (CCB), the University, and the profession, such as student mentoring, committees, and interfacing with students and the business community.

The position involves teaching undergraduate and graduate MIS courses in CCB, which offers numerous MIS courses, covering the spectrum of knowledge and skillset with the design and implementation of information systems. The ideal candidate will have a background and intellectual inclination consistent with the offered classes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in a related field;
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching, including evidence of effective teaching (for current/recent PhD - evidence of having taught at least one course in MIS/Business Analytics or equivalent topic in related discipline);
  • Evidence of effective teaching or the potential to effectively teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
  • Good citizenship in terms of service is critical, as is the ability to work well with colleagues; and
  • Expertise in areas of database design and development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Research publications in MIS/Business/Technology journals (for current/recent PhD - evidence of a strong research pipeline);
  • Teaching potential for graduate level courses;
  • Teaching in at least 2 of the following subject areas: database management, programming/systems, development, business analytics/data mining/machine learning, information security;
  • Evidence of research publications related to MIS;
  • Qualified to be Scholarly Academic by a Ph.D. earned after May 2020 or at least two publications in business peer-reviewed journals on the ABDC list, accepted after July 1, 2020;
  • Clear evidence of teaching experience and ability; and
  • Expertise in data warehousing and data analytics.
