The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike.  Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

 

This position will support DoD- and NIH-funded research projects addressing how cells respond to environmental stressors in Dr. Sara Young-Baird's laboratory in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department at Uniformed Services University.

 

HJF is seeking a n Intern whose work will involve performance of a variety of laboratory tasks geared toward characterizing the function of proteins involved in the cellular Integrated Stress Response.

 

  • Assists in preparing materials for experiments. Prepares reagents, solutions, and culture media.
  • Assists in conducting semi-routine experiments and analyses.
  • Assists in data analysis.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic biology.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and communicate effectively.

Physical Capabilities 

 

  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer or laboratory benchtop for prolonged periods.

Work Environment  

 

This position will take place primarily in a lab, clinic, hospital, or office setting.

 

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 0-2 years experience required
