Job Description - HR Intern

HUMAN RESOURCES INTERN

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking a people-first enthusiastic HR Intern to join our Human Resources team! This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in various HR functions and contribute to the overall success of our global organization. You'll work closely with our Chief People Officer, HR Operations Manager and HR Business Partner to gain exposure to different aspects of HR, including recruitment, internal communications, employee relations, training and development, and HR administration. This exciting position allows you the opportunity to support our HR team as we deliver value to our local and global plant locations. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS

Assigned activities will be determined after hire based on the intern's skills and interests but may include any of the following responsibilities.

Talent Acquisition:

  • Assist with job requisitions, postings, talent sourcing, career fairs, and other recruitment efforts.
  • Coordinate hiring activities via applicant tracking system (conducting candidate pre-screenings, scheduling interviews, and sending onboarding or disposition messaging).
  • Conduct reference checks and assist with the onboarding process.

Internal Communications:

  • Coordinate with Employee Ambassadors to generate engaging monthly employee newsletter content to share employee success stories, news updates, and relevant information company wide.
  • Proofread internal communications copy.
  • Design and develop engaging visual materials in line with brand guidelines.

HR Administration:

  • Help maintain accurate employee records.
  • Assist with HR database maintenance, optimizations, and metrics tracking.
  • Prepare HR-related documents such as employee handbook updates and employee resource documents.
  • Ensure compliance with HR policies and procedures.

Training and Development:

  • Collaborate to identify training needs and create learning resources for management and employees.
  • Assist in organizing and promoting professional development opportunities, such as workshops, seminars, or online training programs.
  • Help administer training evaluations and collect feedback.
  • Track training completion and produce engaging data visualizations for company-wide use.
  • Assist with developing individualized growth plans and company-wide career pathing leveraging the company performance management software system.
  • Support the development of Kwik Lok's employee mentorship program.

Employee Engagement:

  • Assist with employee recognition programs, and employee steering committees.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute events, such as holiday parties, annual picnics, team lunches, after-work gatherings, or sports events that positive relationships and camaraderie.
  • Source local volunteer opportunities, organize wellness events or resources for employees.

General Support:

  • Collaborate with the HR team on various ad hoc projects and assignments.
  • Assist with standard operating procedure creation to align global plants on HR processes.
  • Stay updated on HR trends and best practices to contribute fresh ideas and suggestions.
  • This position supports Kwik Lok production activities through the manufacture of Kwik Lok closures with a focus on continuing improvement of quality, food safety, and manufacturing processes.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently pursuing a degree (or recently graduated) in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems, Canva, and Adobe Suite preferred but not required.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive HR information with integrity.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug and background screenings.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

ALL THE DETAILS…

  • Pay commensurate with experience: Undergraduate: $18.00/hour, Graduate: $21.00/hour
  • Insurance/Retirement benefits only eligible for full-time interns
    • Insurance benefits – Medical, dental, vision, prescription, life, and disability insurance plans (60-day waiting period)
  • Paid time off: (90-day waiting period, prorated for first fiscal year)
    • Holidays: 64.5 hours a year (8.5 days): 1 Floating Holiday, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and the Friday following, half day on Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day
  • Sick Leave : 40 hours a year, accrued at 1 hour per 40 hours worked
  • Work location: In office in Yakima, Washington with occasional hybrid work opportunities
  • Schedule : Schedule: Monday – Friday, 20 hours per week minimum, flexible opportunity to work full-time based on company need and intern availability
    • Telework expectations: Must be available and responsive during scheduled work hours and possess a physical workspace that facilitates telework (internet access, ability to focus on work during work hours if others are present in the home, successfully complete telework environment safety assessments on a regular basis). Employees must use video during virtual meetings to support non-verbal communication continuity. Kwik Lok will supply the employee with all necessary technology to perform work
  • Work environment :
    • Occasionally bends, squats, reaches, kneels, and may lift up to 40 lbs. on occasion. Constantly seeing, hearing, talking.
  • Noise level in office environment 10dB, 85-95 dB in production environment.
  • Regularly sitting and/or standing at a computer.
