Intern - Emergency Management Civil Engineering

Our mission is to provide compassionate consulting services to local, state, federal and industry clients, active in disaster response, recovery, and preparedness. We will be on time, on target, and on budget with the services aligned to the evolving threats and hazards facing our nation.

The Emergency Management Engineering Intern will support ACDC's Recovery Division by assisting in various civil engineering projects related to public infrastructure and utilities. Interns will gain exposure to grant application and implementation processes, state and/or federal permitting, project scope and cost development, and feasibility and preliminary design of engineering projects. Each Engineering Intern will have a specific work portfolio based on their skill sets and desired expertise.

The position will be guided by ACDC’s Corporate Values Platform in all activities.

Position Summary:

• Job Title: EM Engineering Internship
• Full Time or Part Time: Determined upon hire.
• Temporary/Seasonal/Regular: Temporary. 10 Weeks starting June 10, 2024.
• Compensation: $18/hour
• Travel/Location: Remote
• Benefits Summary: This temporary position is not benefits eligible except where required by law.

Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

• This internship will provide a mix of exposure to emergency management recovery operations and strategy, including project management processes, planning, public assistance, and grant management as available/needed.
• Gain exposure to grant application and implementation processes.
• Support the feasibility and preliminary design of engineering projects.
• Support with state and/or federal permitting, including permit applications and compliance.
• Work on projects that have a direct impact on clients if available/needed.
• Interns will be given the opportunity for shadowing experiences and exposure to various divisions and projects as available.
• In limited circumstances, Interns may be asked to assist in matters related to research and development, project management/administration, or other corporate operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Experience and Education Required

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor degree program (or recently graduated within the past year) with a focus in Civil Engineering or specialized function of Emergency Management or closely related field at an accredited university, college, or other educational facility.

• 0-2+ years’ beginner level knowledge/experience in emergency management or engineering principles.
• 0-2+ years’ customer service experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel.

Experience and Education Preferred

• Current GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• 1 year of previous emergency management or civil engineering-related internship, volunteering, or work experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Internship position has no direct supervisory responsibility.

Expected Hours of Work

Schedule may vary and require work on evenings and weekends and dependability and punctuality are paramount.

Physical Demands

• Sitting or standing for hours at a time.
• Ability to work at a computer for prolonged periods of time if needed.

Work Environment

• The internship is considered 100% remote, or work from home.

Additional Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must pass company and any applicable client background check and reference check upon offer of employment.
• Eligibility to work in the United States is required.
