The Cyber Security Intern works closely with the IT Security Manager to plan, implement, upgrade, and monitor security measures for the protection of the Sargent & Lundy’s computer networks and data. You will assess system vulnerabilities for security risks and propose and implement risk mitigation strategies. You will also assist in development and oversight in the implementation of information security applications, procedures, and policies. You will be part of the team to collaboratively monitor and respond to computer security breaches, viruses, and intrusions of the computer systems, including forensic investigation.

• Monitor the network and systems for security breaches or intrusions, taking appropriate actions to mitigate issues
• Implement software tools to assist in the detection, prevention, and analysis of security threats
• Review and respond to client security assessments
• Develop and maintain documentation of computer security and emergency measure policy, procedures, and tests, including response and recovery plans for security breaches
• Perform risk assessments and execute tests of data processing system to ensure functioning of data processing activities and security measures
• Review security assessments for computing environments and check for compliance with cybersecurity standards and regulations

Essential skills and experience:

• Currently pursuing a college/university degree in computer science, software engineering, cyber security, risk management or another related field
• Self-motivated with a passion for learning and problem solving
• Proficiency with MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Valued but not required skills and experience:

• Previous technical experience
• Basic systems knowledge (UNIX, Linux, Windows, memory, file systems etc.)
• Familiarity with penetration and hacking tools
• Familiarity with technology frameworks: ITIL, NIST, ISO
• Experience with identity toolsets: LDAP, multi-factor authentication, privileged Identity management
• Knowledge of OWASP Top 10
