Janssen Research & Development, L.L.C., a division of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies is recruiting an intern in Janssen R&D Data Sciences. The R&D Data Science team within Janssen is driven to meaningfully change the trajectory of disease with transformational medicines to advance the care of patients in the communities we serve. The team uses a diverse set of data and tools, along with platform solutions to answer impactful analytical questions and inform key projects from discovery all the way through late development. This role sits within the Data Science & Digital Health Global Development team, and works cross-functionally to assess and implement innovative translational analytics and research that will inform on inclusion/exclusion criteria for protocol development with a focus on identifying ICD codes and code complexes associated with severe outcomes (hospitalization, death) and adverse events. Responsibilities: • Collate outcomes and adverse events across a range of internal and external data sources including but not limited to real-world data, government reports, and internal trial data • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support data science initiatives in early-stage protocol optimization • Work with large datasets to extract and transform data for use in various applications. • Build and maintain documentation of data processes and procedures. • Communicate data-related findings and insights to partners. Requirements: • Currently pursuing a masters degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics/computational biology, public health, or related degree (graduation date must extend past the internship end date. • Possess a strong understanding of Biomedical Informatics, Biomedical terminology, Statistics, Digital Health, or related field as proven by current or prior coursework • Have experience with large database queries, construction, and automated ETL processes using SQL/Python/R • Possess familiarity with exploring and conducting analyses on large datasets • Possess strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills • Strong interest in the exploration of innovative research using Digital Health, Real World Data, and gaining data and biomedical domain knowledge. • Intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and a collaborative work approach
Preferred: • Coursework or background in Epidemiology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, and other Life Sciences. • Prior independent, graduate, or classroom research experience on a data-focused project. • Familiarity with EHR and medical claims data • Able to travel to on-site location in La Jolla, California Johnson & Johnson is an Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Employer.
