Education
• A minimum of a High School diploma or GED equivalency is required.
• Currently enrolled in the pursuit of a degree toward a BS in Engineering / Management. Skills and Abilities:
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook Experience:
• Casting or metal fabrication experience preferred.
• Familiarity with data analysis and tools such as Minitab preferred. Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Employee is required to execute the following:
• Occasional bending, reaching, pushing and pulling when retrieving and moving various items.
• Lifting intermittently of various items. Typically, assistance would be provided for weights exceeding 35 pounds.
• Good manual dexterity to operate computer equipment and precision measuring instruments.
• Position may require more than eight hours daily and more than five days weekly to complete work assignments.
• Sitting in chairs (swivel, padded, and adjustable).
• Squatting / crouching when retrieving stored items from lower shelves and file cabinets, making equipment / product inspections, etc.
• Standing intermittently.
• Visual monitoring of computer screens.
• Visual inspection and review of products for compliance to specifications. Visual viewing of processing equipment, precision measuring instruments, prints, reports, manuals, procedures and an assortment of printed items.
• Visual requirements for this position are close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Equipment Used:
• The individual will be utilizing standard office equipment including personnel computers, telephone, copiers, electronic instrumentation devices, and an assortment of hand tools and miscellaneous electronic related items. Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The duties of this position are performed throughout the entire floor space of HLC. Duties are performed primarily in an office setting but are occasionally performed in manufacturing areas where compliance with applicable safety rules is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to work near moving mechanical parts and exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level is moderate. During periods of travel, duties could be performed in conference centers, restaurants, places of public accommodation, modes of travel, etc. EHS Requirements
• Expected to assist in the implementation of EHS Values and policy statements and accompanying principals.
• Comply with all department, facility, corporate and regulatory EHS regulations.
• Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).

This position will support the Continuous Improvement Group in facilitating improvement projects in key production bottlenecks. Common duties include time studies of operators, cells, and equipment to help identify waste, improve efficiency, develop standard work along with better tools and procedures. Working daily with all assigned cells and or teams to improve upon standard work or other elements used to link operations and maintain even product flow. During the internship, there will be a mixture of training in CI tools, activities and concept implementation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Prioritize, guide, and facilitate the activities of the manufacturing function to meet organizational goals, initiatives, and requirements, under the guidance of area leaders, manufacturing managers, and Continuous Improvement (CI) manager.
• Oversee the development of standard policies, procedures, and practices to ensure customer requirements are embodied in manufacturing processes.
• Ensure operations metrics are well-known and track daily progress toward achieving objectives.
• Lead cross-functional continuous improvement initiatives for safety, on-time delivery, production efficiency, and scrap reduction. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist CI team in the completion of assigned projects.
• Participate in both CI training and improvement activities.
• Develop Standard Work and work with teams for implementation.
• Maintain Metrics on Performance to Standard Work.
• Support Visual Factory Methods and Metrics in their area of the shop with the goal of improving delivery and speed.
