Through the design and implementation of various types of research studies and the strategic interpretation of data, the mission of Humana Healthcare Research ( HHR ) is to produce high-quality, actionable evidence and rigorous, peer-reviewed research to improve health outcomes, guide Humana’s strategy, and advance the body of knowledge for the scientific community and society at large. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, internal pharmacy comparative effectiveness research; policy, payment and care delivery; and health equity and the impact of social determinants of health on health outcomes. HHR also maintains external partnerships with industry, government, academia and others to produce research important to internal and external stakeholders. We’re a team of research professionals passionate about combining and analyzing diverse types of primary and secondary data to extract new, actionable discoveries about our members and their health-related behaviors.
The HHR Summer Intern Program is a 10-week immersive, professional research learning experience for students or recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in quantitative healthcare research. This is a part time, remote position starting in June through mid-August. Interns will have the opportunity to apply and strengthen their research skills in a supportive environment among a multi-disciplinary team of research experts.
The HHR Intern will support research activities with the Health Services Research team. Responsibilities will include:
+ Contributing to study conceptualization and design, literature reviews, proposal writing
And may also include:
+ Executing statistical analysis per specifications in study protocol and under supervision of experienced research scientists
+ Reporting and interpretation of results

Required Qualifications
+ Completed or in-progress master’s degree or doctoral candidate in a healthcare/research-oriented field (e.g., pharmacy, public health, epidemiology, economics, public policy, outcomes research, biostatistics, health services research, psychology)
+ Experience conducting observational or prospective health-related research
+ Experience working collaboratively on research teams
+ Proficiency in at least one statistical coding language
+ Interest in a career in healthcare research
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience working in SAS and conducting analysis using a regression framework
+ Experience with claims data research

Pay Range
The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.$31,200 – $85,100 per year
