The Center for Healthcare Delivery Science & Innovation (HDSI) has an exciting and challenging 9-week internship opportunity for graduate students studying human-centered design that provides a meaningful collaboration with the Institute of Design and UChicago Medicine faculty, staff and trainees.
Job Summary
Reporting to the director HDSI and under the guidance of Kim Erwin, MDes, Associate Research Professor for Healthcare Design, IIT Institute of Design , the internship will provide an opportunity for the Intern to experience the fundamentals of the health system operations and respond to a Quick Sprint Challenge.
- Under immediate direction of HDSI, the Intern assignment is a project selected from HDSI’s Quick Sprint project challenge, a collection of faculty-defined hospital improvement opportunities;
- The Intern will work with and build skills multi-disciplinary teamwork;
- The Intern will work hand-in-hand with UChicago Medicine providers to gather information and build solutions
- The intern will utilize knowledge and be challenged to maximize his/her learning agility as they contribute to innovative solutions.

Qualifications
- Graduate student in design at Institute of Design at IIT
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
- Superior strategic thinking and problem solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to grasp/understand technical concepts and applications.
