The NBCUniversal Internship Program allows students to unlock their potential by contributing to big projects in meaningful ways that matter. To thrive as an NBCU intern, you are ready to bring your passion for media, entertainment, and technology along with your desire to learn each day.

Academic Year Recruitment Timeline:

Academic Year Internship Program: 

  • Applications Close: April 26th at 11:59pm ET. Pro Tip: Submit your application as soon as possible – applications could close earlier due to applicant volume!   

  • Program Dates: September 16, 2024 – April 18, 2025 

  • Time Commitment: 16-24 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need.  We will do our best to accommodate course schedules. 

  • Format: Opportunities listed will require an intern to work from New York, NY.

Corporate Functions: NBCUniversal's Corporate groups are uniquely positioned at the core of our organization.  Employees within these groups use their area of expertise to support all businesses across the company, keeping the heart of each brand at the forefront. Ad Sales: The NBCUniversal Advertising Sales business has been united as one seamless portfolio with a powerful ability to amplify an advertiser’s message and reach the right consumer in precise, targeted ways. With two broadcast networks (English and Spanish language), 15 cable properties and more than 50 digital properties, advertisers can build ideas around their brands that leverage our unparalleled range and diversity of networks, channels and digital platforms.       

Operations & Technology: (O&T) is a $1B operating cash flow ($1.5B FCF) division of NBCUniversal. The group functions as a global shared service within NBCUniversal performing critical functions including Media, Broadcast and Studio Operations & Production, Content Supply Chain, Information Technology and Engineering, as well as Cyber Security. The group operates from numerous locations around the world, including New York, New Jersey, Los Angeles, Denver, Connecticut, and London.  

NBCUniversal Local & Telemundo: NBCUniversal Local is NBCUniversal’s local media division that delivers English and Spanish-speakers and bilingual audiences in 31 U.S. markets and Puerto Rico, the very best in local sports, news, weather, consumer and investigative reporting, and lifestyle entertainment across any platform and screen. NBCUniversal Local is comprised of three individual media groups including the NBC Owned Television Stations, the NBC Sports Regional Networks and the Telemundo Station Group. NBCUniversal Local’s stations and networks serve diverse audiences and communities across linear, streaming, OTT, digital web, mobile and audio, and cable platforms and work together to keep local audiences informed anytime and anywhere.      

Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Corporate Communications, Creative Group: We are seeking a Graphic Design intern to join the Creative Group at NBCUniversal. We produce various creative work for events, digital, video, consumer-facing and internal communications. We are looking for an individual who is curious and excited about all things design including: brand identities, design systems, environmental design, video, typography, and illustration. A self-starter with attention to detail who meets deadlines and is comfortable learning new design tools to keep pace with the ever-evolving design field and has a collaborative spirit.

  • Corporate Social Responsibility: The NBCU Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team oversees the Company’s volunteering and social impact efforts including; Comcast NBCUnites, the company’s employee volunteering program; NBCUniversal Local Impact and Foundation grant making programs, Creative Impact Lab, the company’s initiative to provide opportunities for apprentices to hone their production skills and The More You Know, the company’s PSA campaign. In addition, the CSR group manages the marketing and communication of these respective platforms and works cross company to support the NBCU businesses in their pro social brand and cause marketing campaigns. The internship will be a great opportunity for a candidate interested in the intersection of business and social purpose, looking to deepen their understanding of employee relations and volunteering, philanthropy and cause marketing, while building skills and gaining experience as a researcher, event planner, marketer and communicator.  

  • Corporate DEI: The NBCUniversal Corporate Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) team works closely with Learning & Development, Early Careers, Talent Branding, Human Resources, CSR, Corporate Communications and enterprise-wise business units to further the company’s inclusion initiatives. Responsibilities may include: maintaining and updating all ERG (Employee Resource Group) databases and distribution lists, regularly communicating and maintaining relationships with 200+ ERG leaders and diversity practitioners across the company, creating and maintain key resource documents for internal and external audiences, and assisting with diversity events including handling guest registration and logistics.   

  • Executive Search: This is an exciting internship opportunity to learn the ins and outs of NBCUniversal’s Global Executive Search Team. Executive Search is an in-house Leadership Recruiting and Advisory Team working across the NBCU enterprise, Comcast, and Sky, specializing in proactively engaging internal and external talent at the Vice President and above level. This team leverages their vast network of relationships to help identify and attract exceptional leadership talent capable of helping transform the company and make NBCU the most competitive and innovative media company in the marketplace. This role plays an integral part of the research team that focuses on proactive pipelining, market mapping projects, and overall knowledge management for the larger team. Additionally, this position will help shape the team’s newly established analytics initiative and continue to build and enhance reporting and metrics.  

  • Corporate Talent Development: As part of the Corporate Functions Human Resources team, this role will be focused on engaging and improving the employee experience for our employees across the four Corporate Functions: Legal, Finance, Human Resources, and Communications. The intern will assist in the stand-up of the new Talent and Organizational Development function, which will grant access to senior leaders across the functions and a broad variety of initiatives related to each of the groups. This will include, but will not be limited to, talent program design, talent data analysis, material organization, and employee communication.

  • Talent Development: NBCUniversal’s enterprise-wide Global Talent Development team is responsible for designing and implementing NBCUniversal’s talent development strategy across our vast portfolio of media and entertainment businesses. This role will work directly with our enterprise center of excellence team that designs and implements Talent practices and solutions that help support and power the end-to-end employee life-cycle – e.g., performance management, talent planning, engagement surveys, training and development assessments, talent identification and nominations. 

  • Ad Sales Human Resources: The Ad Sales Human Resources team at NBCUniversal is looking for a high-energy, results-driven, and innovative HR Intern. The role is a perfect launch pad for someone interested in a career in HR, providing experience in both generalist and specialist work. In this role, you will have exposure to HR projects that span: onboarding, rewards and recognition, performance feedback, talent attraction and development, and HR’s business impact.

  • NBCUniversal Local News Group Human Resources: As part of the Local group, we manage HR for the Local NBC, Telemundo and Regional Sport Networks throughout the country. This role would support the NY market as well as the HQ group which manages initiatives for the division. Responsibilities may include: assisting with professional development programs, assisting with co-location initiatives (both tactical and culture building) during the team’s move to 30 Rock, supporting compensation planning, participating in performance management meetings (as appropriate), aggregating Learning and Development initiatives, and participating in creating and launching engagement events. 

  • Operations & Technology Org Development: The O&T Talent/OD team supports the onboarding and development of all O&T staff, including but not limited to: rotational programs, development programs, non-profit partnerships, and events. This team also leads all Talent Management processes for O&T, including Talent Review and Talent Lab nominations. The intern will support the Media Tech Internship and Associate Programs, including rotation management, participant coordination, offsite planning, and program site maintenance. They will also assist in program readiness for development programs, including comms and reporting. 

Qualifications



Basic Requirements: 

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2024 through April 2025). December 2024 graduates are not eligible for our 2024-2025 Academic Year Program. 

  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits). 

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States throughout the entire duration of the internship (September 2024 to April 2025). Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. 

  • Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 16, 2024 to April 18, 2025. 

  • Must be willing to work in New York, NY. 

Desired Characteristics: 

  • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred. 

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. 

  • Interest in the HR field, DEI, corporate communications and culture, and/or employee engagement. 

  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information. 

  • Strong-problem solving skills, with the ability to self-start and streamline. 

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the professional savvy of communicating at all levels. 

  • Well organized with strong time management & multi-tasking skills. 

  • Ability to take direction from multiple stakeholders & balance numerous projects simultaneously. 

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).    

  • For Corporate Communications - Creative Group:  Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in graphic design or similar; Proficient with Adobe CC software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects; Experience in designing print, digital and animated assets; Knowledge of fonts and typography; Able to create graphic layouts, logos, illustrations, and keyart; Understanding of design principles such as: typography, layouts, grid systems, color theory, hierarchy, etc.; Knowledge of Cinema 4D, Adobe Dimension, Procreate and Figma a plus; Experience with motion graphics a plus. 

  • For Corporate Social Responsibility: Experience with marketing and/or communications tasks through school clubs, teams or jobs/internships; Event planning experience through school clubs, teams or jobs/internships; Knowledge of the following software and languages is a plus: Campaign Monitor, Typeform, CyberGrants, Canva.  

  • For Corporate Talent Development:   Experience analyzing large amounts of qualitative and quantitative data; Presentation skills; Experience in or around a people-focused function, such as Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, and/or Talent Development; Project management and execution; Curiosity and an interest in helping people grow.

  • For Talent Development: Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) preferred; Must be a graduate student in Organizational Development or I/O Psychology, or related fields - HR, Education, Psychology, Business, or Communications. 

The hourly rate for undergraduate student interns is $17.00

The hourly rate for graduate student interns is $25.00 

INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ATTENDING U.S. UNIVERSITIES: 

To participate in NBCUniversal’s 2024-2025 Academic Year internship program, you must confirm at the time of interview that you will be able to provide US work authorization documentation for the entire duration of the internship. Since the NBCU Academic Year Internship Program spans the traditional “Fall” and “Spring” semesters, you should talk to the DSO at your school’s International Students Services Office about your need to apply for CPT work authorization twice to ensure you are authorized to work both semesters and throughout the entirety of the program. 

Please also note that future visa sponsorship at NBCUniversal is rarely available for post-grad employment opportunities.
