The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets of event planning and implementation, volunteer management, and community outreach. It will offer experience in the use of current business and development technologies, including the use of computer and software applications. Our internships offer the opportunity to gain professional experience with a national non-profit organization, further develop communication and presentation skills, and experience skills in team collaboration and customer service.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
  • Internship Duration: 5/20/24 – 8/9/24
  • Hybrid (includes some time at home and some at the office on Mondays). Must live in the Northeast Ohio area.

Internship Outcomes:

Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

  • Gain important and practical job skills to be successful in a non-profit environment.
  • Opportunity to explore a career path with a reputable voluntary health/service organization.
  • Gain experience in the professional world while learning about board management.
  • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.

Tasks could include things like the following:

  • Heart Walk company coordination including coach huddles, fundraising initiatives, and walker recruitment.
  • Assistance with pre-event planning, day of execution, and event wrap-up projects related to any of the events listed above.
  • Helping with follow-up calls and outreach to prospective companies and coaches.
  • Solicitation to secure gift cards and raffle items.
  • Assisting administrative staff with tasks such as printing, thank you cards, event logistics, etc.
  • Juniors, Seniors or Graduate students with an interest in fundraising and/or non-profit organizations. Previous fundraising experience is a plus.
  • Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to work professionally with colleagues and professional volunteers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multifaceted environment handling multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
  • Meeting management and event management including set up, outlook invitations, copies, catering, logistics, and meeting minutes.
  • Knowledge of business letter writing format, style, and protocol
  • Intermediate use of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint
  • Intermediate use of Canva
  • Required Equipment:
  • Reliable WiFi Connection
  • Dependable transportation
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm, with additional weekday evening events, and some weekend events TBD.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
