Utah Valley University is seeking an Internship Coordinator! Working under the supervision of the Director of Internship Services and the Assistant Dean of the College of Health and Public Services, manages the day-to-day functions of the internship program for the College of Health and Public Services. Collaborates with employers to initiate and develop internships that will accommodate the needs of students, academic programs, university internship requirements and employers. Markets Internship opportunities and the internship program to students, faculty and administration within the college. Counsels individually with students to assess needs and provide assistance in preparing for and locating internship opportunities. Assists students in registering for an internship to obtain college credit. Coordinates the selection of faculty mentor(s) and assists in overseeing and training faculty on the Canvas Internship Course, and other required university policies as directed by the Internship Services Director. Provides a clear and organized structure for students within the college to complete internship requirements and obtain credit. Tracks internship performance data, participates in strategic planning and reports regularly to the Director of Internship Services and the Assistant Dean of the College of Health and Public Services.Summary of Responsibilities
  • Meets individually with students to review and approve internship plans for academic rigor and benefit to future career plans. Registers the student for academic credit and assures that initial paperwork is completed. Oversees the assigning of interns to a faculty mentor or Department Internship Coordinator. Provides resources, advisement, and assistance in locating internship opportunities for majors within the college/school.
  • Develops employer relationships leading to local and global internship opportunities. Interfaces with employers to initiate and plan internships that will accommodate the needs of students, academic programs and employers. Manages the development of internships for the college/school. Coordinates with the central internship office and the Multicultural Studies Office to post and promote the internship to students.
  • Collaborates with and trains faculty mentors and assigned Department Internship Coordinators on the internship canvas course, mentoring responsibilities and university internship policies and practices under the direction of the Internship Services Director. Ensures that correct practices are followed. Supervises the work of hourly workers assigned to the internship program for the college/school.
  • Tracks and reports internship data to department chairs, deans and Internship Services. Ensures that students are completing required tracking data and that the canvas internship course is updated each semester. Assesses the strengths of the internship program and makes recommendations for improvement and growth. Manages the internship website for the college/school.
  • Meets regularly with the Internship Services Director and the central internship office team to coordinate, train and report on progress within the college/ school. Develops goals and objectives for strategic planning and consults with the Director of Internship Services and the Dean of the College/School to implement into an overall plan. Participates in and supports central office events promoting internships and its programs.
  • Promotes the internship program to students within the school/college to increase size and scope of the program and provides information regarding scholarships and internship opportunities. Coordinates marketing efforts with the central office and may include class presentations, creation of marketing materials and social media.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in directly related field of study or a combination of education and experience totaling four years.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of current social economic and employment conditions, trends and job placement methods.
  • Knowledge of employment laws and university regulations affecting internships.
  • Knowledge of basic marketing principles, including creating and facilitating campaigns.
  • Knowledge of effective use of social media for both marketing and employer relations.
  • Knowledge of job search, counseling and career planning.

Skills:

  • Skills in computer software (Microsoft Office) and other office software as applied to management of student records, report preparation and related activities.
  • Skills in other multimedia software such as Canvas and Adobe Suite a plus.
  • Excellent writing and composition skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal communication, problem-solving, decision-making and prioritization skills.
  • Skills in creativity, innovation and detail orientation.

Abilities:

  • Ability to work with individuals from multiple authority levels and diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage several diverse projects simultaneously meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to be self-directed and to complete tasks without supervision.
  • Ability to build professional relationships with current and potential employers.
  • Ability to assist students in developing internship plans.
