Alaska Clean Seas (ACS) is offering Summer Intern Positions for 2026. The primary duties of this position will vary from candidate to candidate based upon areas of interest and ACS needs. The Summer Intern is a temporary rotational position designed to provide dependents and relatives of ACS employees with structured North Slope work experience. The position offers exposure to multiple operational departments to promote understanding of ACS’ business culture, safety standards, and workplace expectations. The internship typically runs from May through August and generally includes three to four two week rotations. The standard schedule is two weeks on duty followed by two weeks off. While on rotation, interns work 12 hours per day, seven days per week, from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Under the supervision of assigned department leadership and the daily direction of a designated ACS Primary Point of Contact, the Summer Intern performs entry-level field and administrative support tasks consistent with training, qualifications, and program guidelines. Interns are not assigned duties beyond their assessed skills, abilities, or authorization level. Extensive training will be provided. Safety is the primary expectation of this position at all times.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Departmental Rotation & Work Assignments
Participate in structured rotations through designated ACS departments during the internship period.
Receive department overview briefings and defined daily assignments.
Assist with entry-level field and administrative support tasks appropriate to assigned department.
Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and departmental activities.
Complete midpoint and final evaluations and feedback sessions.
2. Safety and Compliance
All duties must be performed in a safe manner and in full compliance with ACS policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
Participate in ACS’s behavior-based safety program.
Exercise Stop Work Authority when unsafe conditions are observed.
Comply with the ACS Drug and Alcohol Policy, including reasonable suspicion and post-accident testing.
Promptly and accurately report and document all incidents, injuries, fires, equipment damage, and safety violations.
Promote and maintain a safe work environment at all ACS sites and while representing ACS elsewhere.
3. Supervision & Conduct:
Work under the direction of a designated daily Primary Point of Contact.
Maintain professional conduct on shifts, in housing, and during travel.
Maintain confidentiality of company information.
Interns are prohibited from engaging in romantic or intimate relationships with ACS employees during the internship period due to supervisory, housing, and safety considerations.
4. Other Responsibilities
Develop workplace competencies and communication skills.
Perform other duties as assigned within authorized scope.
Complete required documentation and exit interview process.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a dependent or relative of a current ACS employee.
Must be 18-24 years of age on or before May 31 of employment year. This internship is designed as an early-career workforce exposure program.
Must be able to meet the physical and medical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record required.
Must pass required pre-employment screening, including drug test.
Interns may not be supervised by or regularly work with a family member.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Lift up to 70 lbs.; carry up to 50 lbs.; push/pull up to 100 lbs.; shovel up to 20 lbs.
Frequent walking and standing; occasional sitting, squatting, bending, reaching, and keyboarding.
Must meet HAZWOPER physical requirements, including clearance to wear a full-face respirator.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Internship typically consists of three two-week rotational assignments, following a two-week-on / two-week-off schedule, working 12-hour days, seven days per week while on rotation. Overtime is paid in accordance with company policy. Interns are eligible for holiday pay and workers’ compensation coverage; no additional benefits apply.
Work is performed in Arctic conditions, often outdoors in cold, wet weather. Appropriate clothing is required. Arctic-rated personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided.
May require extended travel over unpaved roads, tundra, uneven, icy terrain, on or near water.
May involve properly handling hazardous materials and waste.
Dress code must meet professional and North Slope operational standards.
ANSI-approved hard-toe safety footwear required when on the North Slope.
