Air Academy Kitchen Staff/ Camp Counselor

SUMMARY

A summer work experience for an inspiring aviation student. A Kitchen Staff/Camp Counselor will primarily assist the Camp Cook with meal service to include meal prep, serving, supervised cooking, kitchen & dining room cleanup. In addition, candidates may be asked to step in to camp programming to provide guidance, counsel, supervision and instruction to participants.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Prepare and assist with daily food production for three meals per day, following the schedules and recipes


2. Serve meals buffet-style, restock stations, and support additional service needs


3. Wash, dry, and properly store all dishes, utensils, and equipment after each use


4. Perform daily and deep cleaning of kitchen, prep areas, and dining spaces per checklist


5. Uphold strict health, safety, and food hygiene standards at all times


6. Complete other duties as assigned by the Chef or Camp Director


7. Perform general cleaning of buildings and grounds.


8. Supervise Air Academy participants in accomplishing support of the EAA Air Academy, Lodge, and the Pioneer Airport Operations.


9. Provide guidance, counsel, mentorship, aviation instruction, orientation of ground school, technical workshop challenge course and other aviation activities.


10. Know and understand all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.


11. Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your campers’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.


12. Other duties may be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 18 years old


• Knowledge and interest in aviation


• Deal effectively, tactfully and pleasantly with volunteers, staff, program participants, and museum visitors.


• Ability to work independently and in groups

• Ability to communicate and work with groups and provide necessary instructions to campers.


• Abilities to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.


• Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.

 PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous commercial kitchen experience


• ServSafe Certification


• Previous camp experience as a camp counselor or camper is a plus.


• Experience with aviation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Typical kitchen/camp setting. Potential for long hours which may include early morning/late nights and more than 40 hours per week. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force regularly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Bend, stretch, reach, and preform repetitive motions for long periods.
