Job Description - Animal Camp Coordinator

POSITION OVERVIEW


The Palm Springs Animal Shelter (PSAS) is hosting a children’s Animal Camp this summer. If you enjoy being around children and animals, and are enthusiastic about education, we'd love to have you join us as the camp coordinator.  The camp coordinator is responsible for program planning, registration, day-to-day operations, expense tracking and wrap-up reporting. There will be three (3) camp sessions, with approximately 15 campers each. The camp schedule is as follows:




  • Session 1 | Grades 4-6, June 15-18, Monday-Thursday, 9:00-3:00

  • Session 2 | Grades 4-6, June 29-July 2, Monday-Thursday, 9:00-3:00

  • Session 3 | Grades 4-6, July 13-16, Monday-Thursday, 9:00-3:00



Your projected work schedule is as follows:


● Week of April  27, 20026 through June 7, 2026: 10 to 15 hours per week


● June 8 through July 17, 2026: Approximately 40 hours per week (Monday through Thursday 4/10 weeks)


● July 18 through July 31, 2024: 10 - 15 hours per week



The Camp Coordinator will be required to have reliable transportation. The Coordinator will also be required to be CPR certified; if not already certified, the Coordinator will need to take training arranged and paid for by the Shelter. 



RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Manage the application and registration process.  

  • Develop and oversee schedule of activities.

  • Communication effectively with camp counselors, instructors, volunteers, parents, and other staff.

  • Work with PSAS staff to purchase and store camp supplies.

  • Communicate your volunteer staffing needs to the PSAS Volunteer Manager. Check in regularly to ensure coverage when camp is in session, including arrival and departure of campers. 

  • Build and foster a positive relationship with families and our community from the application process and throughout the camp.

  • Coordinate the daily camp operations – set-up, equipment, safety checks, records, rules, evaluations, and policies and camp counselor/volunteer schedules.

  • Adhere to all rest and meal break laws/policies as outlined in the PSAS Employee Handbook. 

  • Maintain accurate records for attendance, medical, and administrative information.

  • Keep the camp classroom and supply areas clean and well organized

  • Provide ongoing support for campers, parents and volunteers

  • Manage and track the camp budget and associated paperwork

  • Track youth progress and outcomes

  • Track grant data

  • Work with PSAS staff to plan and implement a camp volunteer and staff appreciation event

Skills and/or Abilities


Excellent computer skills: good understanding of Google Suites.


Highly organized; ability to meet multiple deadlines.


Ability to perform basic math; track expenses. 


Self-started; proven ability to lead a team.


Excellent written and verbal communication skills


The ability to speak Spanish is preferred. 



PHYSICAL DEMANDS  Must be able to stand and/or sit for long periods of time, repetitive bending, kneeling, stooping and similar movements required. Ability to lift and/or carry 25 pounds. (A complete "Physical Demands of the Position") will be presented to you for review prior to employment.
