Job Description - APP Fellowship Program in Partnership with OhioHealth


SUMMARY: The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Oncology Fellow is a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant participating in a structured postgraduate fellowship designed to support the transition into a specialty oncology practice. Through supervised clinical rotations, mentorship, and oncology-focused education, the fellow develops competency in the evaluation, treatment, and longitudinal management of patients with cancer across inpatient and outpatient settings, including solid tumors, hematologic malignancies, and treatment-related complications. 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential duties and responsibilities of this job include the following. These are the duties that define this job and are required to be performed by the incumbent. Other essential duties may be assigned. 
  • CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide direct patient care including comprehensive assessments, formulations of differential diagnoses, and development of evidence-based treatment plans for patients with cancer under the supervision of licensed oncology providers.
  • Participate in clinical rotations across medical oncology, hematologic oncology, infusion services, inpatient oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care, and supportive care services.
  • Assist in the management of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeting therapies, including monitoring and management of treatment-related toxicities.
  • Support patients and families through complex cancer care pathways including symptom management, survivorship, and end-of-life care when appropriate.
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams including oncologists, pharmacists, nurses, and support services to deliver coordinated, high-quality patient care.
  • EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
  • Participate in oncology-specific didactic sessions, tumor boards, journal clubs, simulation labs, and specialty workshops.
  • Engage in ongoing mentorship and performance evaluation throughout the fellowship.
  • Demonstrate progressive development of oncology knowledge, clinical judgment, and professional practice competencies.

QUALIFICATIONS: In order to qualify for this job, the incumbent must possess the following qualifications or be able to secure them within 90 days.
  • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Completion of graduate-level clinical training for licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider.
  • Prior oncology experience preferred but not required.
