Job Description - ApprenTECH - Sanctions Screening Technology

Apprentice Position on Mizuho’s Sanctions Screening Technology Team

We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented professional to join the Sanctions Screening technology team as a Fircosoft Engineer. This role is ideal for individuals interested in regulatory compliance, financial crime prevention, data quality, and process transformation.

The Fircosoft Engineer will support the implementation, configuration, and optimization of Fircosoft screening solutions used for sanctions, Politically Exposed Persons (PEP) screenings, and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) name screening. This role is ideal for early‑career professionals with strong analytical abilities, interest in financial crime technology, and a desire to develop expertise in sanctions screening platforms within a regulated financial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the configuration, tuning, and maintenance of Fircosoft (Continuity/Filter) screening engines.
  • Support rule configuration, filter setup, scoring parameters, and list management activities.
  • Monitor daily system performance, resolve processing issues, and escalate system errors as needed.
  • Work with data feeds, ETL processes, and batch screening pipelines to ensure accurate ingestion and output of customer and transaction data.
  • Validate data quality, identify discrepancies, and participate in remediation efforts.
  • Participate in tuning initiatives to reduce false positives while maintaining regulatory compliance.
  • Run test cases, regression tests, and scenario-based validations after changes or upgrades.
  • Assist in periodic model/rules reviews to support system effectiveness.
  • Support deployments, upgrades, patching, and change-management cycles.
  • Work with technology and business stakeholders across IT, Compliance, and Operations.
  • Provide end-user support, troubleshooting, and issue triage related to screening results or system behavior.

Required Technology Knowledge

  • Familiarity with workflow tools, JIRA, or foundational technology concepts (APIs, data flows, databases).
  • Ability to document processes, gather requirements, and translate business needs into structured project artifacts.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Solid understanding of Agile project delivery methodologies.
  • Basic SQL or data‑analysis experience is a plus.
  • General knowledge of the software development lifecycle and interaction between business, technology, and control functions

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills—especially important as compliance initiatives are highly cross‑functional, international and business‑facing.
  • Demonstrated desire to learn regulatory concepts, operational processes, and new technologies.
  • Ability to work well in a team and collaborate with diverse stakeholders across regions and functions.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn complex screening technology.
