Democracy Now! Internships are paid, 20-hour per week, temporary work placements to help students, people early in their careers and career changers gain entry-level skills and experience in the fields of archiving and fundraising and translation in a non-profit setting. The Democracy Now!’s Archive internship program is an exciting opportunity to learn about the field of audio-visual archiving and preservation in a dynamic, fast-paced, and supportive environment. Composed of over 70,000 media items, the archive contains books, photographs, artifacts and audio-visual materials such as field recordings, oral histories, interviews, and news footage from the 1980s to today. An integral part of daily operations and production of Democracy Now!, the archive is also used as a resource by researchers, filmmakers, artists and educators. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in pursuing a career in media archives in a busy newsroom environment. The Intern works closely with the Democracy Now! Production team and Archivist.

September 2026 – June 2027
Activities
Catalog incoming video created by Democracy Now! producers and other independent media and news organizations
Process paper, book collections and magnetic tape
Digitize analog media
Create tags and descriptive metadata for media asset management system
Other duties as needed
Qualifications
Knowledge of Democracy Now! and commitment to its mission
Experience with basics of video and audio editing
Proficiency with Mac OS X, Linux and Office suite or equivalent
Knowledge of relational database platforms
Familiarity with video codecs and open source audio-visual tools preferred
Knowledge of current events is helpful
Authorization to work in the US
Compensation
$21 per hour
