Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position):
Work with a team of students and faculty to create scenery for the theater department’s productions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties vary daily, but can include:
Building scenery using an assortment of power and hand tools
Painting scenery
Installing scenery on the Kelsey or Haugen stages
Finding or building props as needed for department productions
Assisting in keeping the theaters and storage areas organized
Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills
Experience as a Production assistant in the Scene Shop for a minimum of 1 academic year or equivalent experience preferred
Able to show up for assigned shifts consistently and on time.
Self-motivated – able to identify and move on to the next task with minimal prompting by supervisor.
Able to identify different types of lumber and plywood.
Able to use hand, portable, and stationary power tools with minimal instruction.
Able to build a scenic unit from a drawing after some instruction from the supervisor.
Know the procedure for safely loading and unloading a batten
Able to identify and communicate about potential safety hazards on stage and in the shop.
Physical and Environmental Factors:
This position requires crouching, kneeling/crawling, stooping, twisting/pivoting, climbing/balancing, reaching overhead, grasping/handling, pushing/pulling, lifting and carrying objects up to 50 lbs., operating hand tools, operating power tools, and operating equipment or machinery to perform the essential functions. It also requires exposure to loud noise, respiratory factors, chemicals, vibrations, proximity hazards, and heights or cramped quarters, as well as rare exposure to wet or humid conditions indoors, extreme cold, and extreme heat to perform the essential functions. Protective equipment is required for some essential functions. Candidates must possess the ability to safely perform the physical work required of all duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
