Job Description - Camp Counselor - Winter Camp 2026

SALARY RANGE 

$20.00 - $22.00/ per hour.

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION


Winter Camp at the JCCSF offers one-week to two-week sessions in both the traditional day camp and specialty camp settings for campers in grades K-5. Winter Camp is in session December 21 - January 1. Our classic day camps feature arts & crafts, STEAM projects, and sports. Specialty camps include visual arts, nature exploration, musical theater, science and more.  
  
As a camp counselor, you’ll be helping children create lifelong memories. At the same time, you’ll build your leadership skills, boost your resume and have a blast! 



RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Be the primary role model for a group of campers, grades K through 5 .

  • Create a safe, supportive environment for campers.

  • Plan, organize and supervise fun and age-appropriate activities .

  • Help lead lesson plans and support indoor and outdoor programming .

  • Set clear, consistent limits and resolve behavioral challenges with help from supervisors.

  • Take on additional responsibilities as required .


REQUIREMENTS


  • Must be at least 16 with a valid work permit.

  • Willing to commit to one to two weeks of camp (Applicants who can commit to the greatest number of weeks will be prioritized) .

  • A team player.

  • Experienced working with children ages 5 through 15, preferably in a camp setting .

  • Warm, open and able to respond sensitively to diverse groups of children.

  • Interested in creating, planning and facilitating group activities .

  • Appropriately silly and imaginative at play . 

  • Adept at juggling attention to one camper while supervising large groups .

  • Enthusiastic, flexible and able to improvise (a must) .

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs, stand/walk for approximately 6 hours a day.  

  • Be prepared to participate in swim-based activities with campers in 3-5 feet of water in appropriate swim attire .


WORKING CONDITIONS


Will be working directly with and mainly responsible for youth aged 5-11. Camps take place in a variety of locations both indoors (classrooms, basketball gym, art studio, catering kitchen) and outdoors (field trips, sports field, playgrounds).  Locations are dependent on which camp type the counselors are assigned. Assignments can be made with consideration of counselor preferences.  



 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift 50lbs, stand/walk for approximately 6 hours a day.  

 

STATUS

​​Non-benefited, non-exempt position​.

 

HOURS

37.5 hours per week.

 

SCHEDULE


  • Winter Direct Service Hours: December 21,2026-January 01,2027 .

  • 8:15am – 4:pm or 10am-6pm, Monday – Friday .

  • No work on 12/25/26 or 01/01/27
