Cardiac Sonographer Student – PRN

PRN, First Shift

The Noninvasive Lab offers diagnostic services that do not require surgical procedures. This includes echocardiograms and other tests to monitor heart function and detect abnormalities.

The Cardiac Sonographer Student performs diagnostic echocardiogram examinations under the guidance of a preceptor, utilizing ultrasound equipment to obtain accurate anatomical and diagnostic images. This role supports patient care, quality initiatives, and departmental operations while maintaining safety, professionalism, and compliance with organizational and industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform echocardiography procedures with technical accuracy following departmental and IAC standards

• Obtain and review patient medical history and prior cardiovascular testing

• Correlate clinical symptoms and physical assessment to the ordered exam

• Capture appropriate anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic images

• Communicate findings to preceptor and report critical findings when indicated

• Ensure patient safety, comfort, and infection control compliance

• Use proper medical terminology and documentation practices

• Maintain ultrasound equipment, probes, and work areas in clean and safe condition

• Follow PPE, ergonomic, and patient safety guidelines

• Assist with quality improvement activities, competency validations, and required training

• Participate in departmental meetings, education, and inventory management

• Perform additional duties as assigned to support department operations

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED required

• Must be actively enrolled in a CAAHEP-accredited ultrasound program

• Basic Life Support (BLS) required (American Heart Association)

  • Must be obtained within 90 days of hire if not current

• Must obtain Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) and/or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (CCI) within 90 days
