JOB OVERVIEW:

This internship supports the Commercial Insurance team within EPIC’s Midwest region, with a focused effort on strengthening carrier partnerships and improving operational performance. The role is designed for a student pursuing a degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Business, Marketing, or a related field, who is interested in gaining meaningful, project based experience in the commercial insurance industry.

Unlike a broad exploratory internship, this position is structured around clear deliverables, measurable outcomes, and ownership of defined projects. The work performed will directly contribute to revenue improvement, enhanced carrier status, and operational efficiency—resulting in both a completed portfolio of deliverables and a strong résumé achievement.

The intern will collaborate closely with Commercial Insurance leadership and support ongoing initiatives to quantify carrier relationships, evaluate supplemental compensation opportunities, map support levels, and develop action plans for improved carrier performance.

LOCATION: Carmel, Indiana, or Terre Haute, Indiana. This role is in office.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Support the Commercial Insurance team in analyzing carrier compensation structures, including supplemental/contingent income programs


• Help maintain and improve data on carrier production, volumes, loss ratios, and support tiers


• Assist in building dashboards or trackers that quantify:


• Which carriers pay supplemental compensation


• Qualification thresholds and performance criteria


• Gaps between current and target carrier tiers


• Underwriting Appetite and Satisfaction Ratings


• Collect information from internal stakeholders and carrier partners to ensure accuracy and completeness of data


• Evaluate and summarize opportunities to improve carrier status and unlock additional compensation


• Document current workflows and assist in identifying process improvements that increase operational ease


• Prepare summaries, reports, and presentation materials for leadership


• Participate in project meetings and provide updates on assigned deliverables


• Perform other project-based duties as assigned to support regional operational and revenue initiatives

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

• Strong analytical skills and interest in understanding how insurance carriers drive revenue and operations


• Organized, detail oriented, and able to manage multiple project components at once


• Clear, professional communication skills — written and verbal


• Ability to handle data, identify patterns, and synthesize key insights


• Comfortable working in Microsoft 365, especially Excel (required)


• Experience or willingness to learn carrier portals, CRM tools, and internal systems


• Curiosity about commercial insurance markets and how agencies partner with carriers


• A proactive, self starter mindset with a willingness to dive into complex topics and learn quickly


• Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a degree in: Risk Management & Insurance, Business, Finance, Marketing, Sales, or related field

• Prior experience in insurance or financial services is helpful but not required


• Experience with data analysis, research, reporting, or insurance coursework is a plus

COMPENSATION: The hourly pay offered will be determined based on your experience, skills, training, certifications and education, while also considering internal equity and market data.
