Job Description - Clean Transportation Intern

Green Energy Consumers Alliance is a non-profit organization that enables people to make green energy choices in the most cost-effective, practical, and seamless ways possible, and to advocate for energy policies that benefit the greater good. One of our focus areas is the transportation sector, which accounts for the largest portion of greenhouse gas emissions. We address this sector through Drive Green, our educational program about electric vehicles, and through public policy advocacy on electrification, public transit, and more. This internship will assist in both transportation spheres. 


 


Internship responsibilities include:  



  • Research, as needed, into policies, programs, and market developments around electric vehicles (EVs), charging infrastructure, public transit, electricity rate design, and more. 



  • Assist on Drive Green outreach and program procedures, including helping to maintain
    our database of available EVs
     



  • Assist with webinars and events, including tabling at in-person events around the state with Drive Green staff 



  • Other duties as assigned.  


 


Required Qualifications:  



  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn more about clean energy, climate mitigation, the transportation sector, public policy, and/or the nonprofit sector.   



  • Strong research skills.  



  • Good written & verbal communication skills. 



  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to closely follow written procedures. 


 


Eligible Candidates Include: 



  • Students or recent graduates of a college or a training program in Massachusetts, OR who are residents of Massachusetts. Prospective interns must also meet one (1) of the following:  



  • Students must have completed or will complete at least their freshman year of college the semester before the internship (24 Credits) or have graduated within the past year;    



  • If a student attends or attended a community college (or 2‐year associate program), the student must have completed at least 24 credits;   



  • If a student has attended a training program, that program must have been completed within the last year;  



  • If a student attends an out-of-state university, they must provide proof of Massachusetts residency; OR  



  • Graduate students must be currently enrolled in their program or have completed it within the last year. 



  • Students that are currently enrolled at a college or university located in Rhode Island, or if the college or university is located outside of Rhode Island, can demonstrate proof of residency. 



  • Students that have completed or will complete at least their freshman year of college (24 credits) the semester before the internship. 



  • If a student attends a community college (or 2-year associate program) the student must have completed at least 24 credits. 



  • Graduate students must be currently enrolled in a master’s degree program or have graduated within one year of applying. 


 


 


Desired Qualifications:  



  • Familiarity with electric vehicles, renewable energy, and/or energy policy with a desire to learn more.  



  • Driver's license.  



  • A second language.

This 12-week internship with negotiable hours (ideally 37.5 hours/week) will be conducted in a hybrid fashion, working both remotely and at least one day a week from our office in Cambridge, MA or Providence, RIThe session will start on or after
May 15 2026, and end by August 31 2026. The hours can be fulfilled around your schedule, but must be during 9am-6pm M-F. The pay is $22.00/hr. The internship is contingent up
on funding from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center or RI Office of Energy Resources.
