Clinical Qualified Treatment Trainee (QTT) Child Therapist

The Clinical Extern - Child Therapist provides comprehensive social services and activities that support and enhance the psychosocial functioning and mental and emotional health of agency clients, prospective clients, and members of the community. Reports to the Director of Clinical and Community-Based Services. Receives clinical supervision from approved supervisor on staff. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides counseling and psychotherapy services to children and families, including intake assessments and diagnostic evaluation of clients, in community-based, school, and clinical settings. 
• Possesses knowledge of DSM V diagnosis and trauma sensitive treatment modalities with an understanding of a variety of theoretical approaches, group process, and client advocacy. 
• Practices in an ethical manner that meets current level of competency to provide psychotherapy. 
• Must demonstrate an understanding of familial issues related to family violence, separation and divorce. 
• Must possess strong Trauma Informed knowledge and skills. 
• Provides on-site counseling services at Milwaukee Elementary and High Schools in which Jewish Family Services operates as well as to youth in the outpatient mental health clinic at JFS. 
• Maintains client confidentiality at all times. 
• Participates in weekly supervision with approved extern supervisor. 
• Participates in required client outcomes measures and agency quality assurance protocols. 
• Responsible for meeting minimum performance standards as determined by supervisor. 
• Records and maintains essential client records and statistical data in compliance with agency and State regulations and within required time frame. 
• Collaborates and confers with agency personnel, volunteers, and professionals of other agencies. 
• Confers with clinical supervisor on regular basis and participates actively in supervisory process and in peer review process as a team member. 
• Participates in professional growth and in-service opportunities; attends seminars that expand professional knowledge; and shares information with colleagues. 
• Markets self and represents JFS in the Jewish community and community at large.

• Master’s degree from an accredited school or social work, psychology, educational psychology or equivalent. 
• Holds or has applied for a valid Wisconsin license from the Wisconsin Social Work Examining Board, Wisconsin Marriage and Family Therapy, or Professional Counseling (APSW, LPC-IT). 
• Must have demonstrated ability to be culturally-sensitive and have provided culturally-specific services to clients from diverse backgrounds. 
• Ability to work independently, organize workload and maintain required level of productivity as determined by supervisor. 
• Adaptability and flexibility, creative and positive psychology approach to working with families experiencing extreme poverty and systemic barriers to accessing mental health services. 
• Strong public speaking and writing skills. Comfortable promoting the programs and services of the Clinic and agency. 

Additional qualifications:

• Candidates must successfully pass a criminal background check with the Wisconsin Department of Justice and a caregiver background check with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, the Department of Children and Families and the Department Safety and Professional Services. 
• Candidates must pass a Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender and Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry screening.
• Documentation, or verified medical exemption, of immunizations and/or screening of: Tuberculosis, Flu, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella (Chicken Pox).Must have a valid driver’s license, access to reliable vehicle, and automobile insurance coverage throughout employment.
• Knowledge, understanding, and/or willingness to learn Jewish culture and traditions and those of the Agency population as necessary.
