CLS Summer Internship

Overview

Community Legal Services (CLS) is seeking motivated law students to participate in our Summer Associate Program, a hands-on opportunity to gain meaningful experience in public interest law while serving vulnerable communities across Central Florida.

For over 50 years, CLS has provided no-cost legal services to individuals and families facing barriers to justice, helping them protect their homes, health, and livelihoods.

Summer Associates will work closely with CLS attorneys, gaining exposure to real legal work while developing practical skills in litigation, client advocacy, and community outreach. Participants will also engage in networking and professional development opportunities throughout the program.

This program runs for 10 weeks beginning in June 2026, with Summer Associates working approximately 20 hours per week. A $6,000 stipend is provided for the duration of the program.

Responsibilities

Summer Associates will have the opportunity to assist attorneys with a variety of legal and community-focused work, including:

• Assisting with legal research and drafting pleadings and motions


• Observing and assisting with depositions and case preparation


• Shadowing attorneys on active cases and client matters


• Participating in pro bono clinics serving the community


• Supporting community outreach initiatives and events


• Assisting with projects related to the Domestic Violence Task Force


• Supporting services provided through the CLS Mobile Helpline


• Participating in professional development opportunities such as Lunch & Learn sessions and networking events

Qualifications

• Be currently enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school


• Demonstrate a strong interest in public interest or civil legal aid


• Possess strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills


• Be organized, detail-oriented, and able to work collaboratively


• Be able to commit approximately 20 hours per week for 10 weeks

Compensation

• $6,000 stipend for the duration of the program
