Job Title: Community Housing Programs Intern  


Reports To: VP of Community Housing Programs


Schedule: Based on academic program requirements and agreed-upon internship schedule


FLSA Status:
Unpaid Internship


This internship is structured in accordance with Department of Labor guidelines, emphasizing educational benefit, alignment with academic requirements, and mutual understanding that there is no expectation of compensation or paid employment at the conclusion of the internship.


 


Summary:


The Community Housing Programs Intern participates in a supervised educational experience within the Agency’s Community Housing department. The internship is designed to provide exposure to community-based housing and human services programs while allowing the student to apply academic learning, develop professional skills, and explore areas related to their educational and career interests.


 


Learning experiences and activities may vary based on the student’s academic program, learning objectives, interests, experience, and available opportunities within the Agency.


 


Learning Activities and Responsibilities


The intern may have opportunities to:



  • Shadow and observe staff across Community Housing programs and related functions.

  • Participate in meetings, program activities, client interactions, and other learning opportunities as appropriate.

  • Gain exposure to case management, housing services, community resources, and other areas of human services.

  • Learn Agency practices and procedures related to client services, documentation, confidentiality, and professional standards.

  • Assist with client files, documentation, projects, and program activities under appropriate supervision.

  • Apply concepts and skills learned through academic coursework in a supervised professional environment.

  • Participate in increasingly hands-on learning experiences as appropriate based on the intern’s knowledge, experience, and readiness.

  • Explore different programs and service areas based on the intern’s learning objectives and interests.

  • Participate in supervision, feedback, and reflection regarding internship experiences and professional development.

  • Complete learning activities or projects associated with the student’s academic program, as applicable.

  • Maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and appropriate standards of conduct.


 


Qualifications:



  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program for which the internship provides relevant educational or field experience.

  • Ability to meet applicable academic program requirements for internship or field placement.

  • Interest in gaining experience within community housing, nonprofit, social services, human services, or a related field.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Intermediate MS Office skills

  • Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and participate in supervised professional experiences.

  • Dependable, organized, and able to communicate appropriately regarding scheduling and internship responsibilities.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and interact professionally with clients, staff, and community partners.



Physical Demands


This position requires the ability to:



  • Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.

  • Communicate effectively in person, virtually, and in writing.

  • Occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 25 pounds.
