Construction Intern

Position Summary

The Concrete Production Intern supports concrete plant operations and field construction activities. This role provides hands‑on experience with concrete batching, materials testing, mix design fundamentals, field placement, and quality documentation. Interns will work closely with plant personnel, quality control technicians, and field crews to gain practical knowledge of modern concrete production and construction practices.

Key Responsibilities

Concrete Plant Operations

• Assist with daily batching operations, including monitoring material proportions, moisture levels, and mix consistency.


• Learn how aggregates, cement, admixtures, and water are stored, measured, and blended.


• Support daily plant inspections, equipment checks, and basic maintenance.


• Observe how production schedules, delivery timing, and material flow impact overall performance.

Quality Control & Testing

• Assist with concrete testing, including:

  • Temperature checks
  
  
  • Making and curing test cylinders
  
  
  • Sampling procedures and documentation
  
  
  
  


• Maintain accurate logs, test results, and daily quality documentation.


• Learn about mix adjustments and how environmental conditions affect performance.

Field Operations

• Participate in field visits to observe concrete placement, finishing, curing, and early‑age quality checks.


• Assist with coordinating concrete deliveries, ticket tracking, and communication with plant operators.


• Support field crews with measurements, photos, and basic project documentation.

Project Support & Documentation

• Review batch tickets, delivery logs, and related production records.


• Assist with updating project files, material tracking, and compliance documents.


• Attend team meetings and prepare notes when requested.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related program.


• Strong interest in concrete materials, construction operations, or plant production.


• Willingness to learn concrete mix design fundamentals and batching processes.


• Ability to work in outdoor industrial environments near heavy equipment.


• Detail‑oriented with strong communication and organizational skills.


• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with lab or construction software is a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and climb in plant and field environments.


• Ability to work outdoors in heat, moisture, and high‑noise conditions.


• Ability to lift 25–50 lbs. occasionally.


• Ability to wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, safety vest, hearing protection, etc.).
