Job Description - Development & Marketing Internship - Summer 2025

Description

If you're passionate about storytelling, nonprofit branding, and event experiences that drive real impact—this internship is for you. As a Development & Events Intern at A Safe Place, you'll gain behind-the-scenes access to planning, marketing, and executing high-impact fundraising events and campaigns that sustain our mission.

Interns will support strategy and execution across fundraising events, donor communications, and community engagement activities. You’ll work closely with the Director of Events, Director of Marketing, the Chief Development Officer, and the Manager of Education Outreach to bring inspiring campaigns to life.

  

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist in developing and executing event timelines, RSVP tracking, and event materials
  • Help coordinate event logistics (venue research, sponsorship outreach, vendor communication, volunteer coordination)
  • Draft creative content for social media, flyers, and donor outreach
  • Support creation of day-of signage, marketing packets, guest lists, and recap reports
  • Attend planning meetings and serve onsite at key community and donor events
  • Organize and update marketing assets, event databases, and donor platforms (LGL, Greater Giving)

Compensation & Schedule:
This internship is unpaid or stipend-based (as applicable), with course credit available if approved by your institution. The schedule is flexible, with a minimum of 10–15 hours per week, including occasional evenings or weekend events. 

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, or Event Planning
  • Passionate about community impact, storytelling, and mission-driven branding
  • Strong emotional intelligence and sensitivity to trauma
  • Organized, proactive, and ready to contribute in fast-paced environments
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Teams, and digital documentation tools
  • Strong communicator with a heart for social justice and survivor-centered care
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards
  • Reliable transportation and flexibility to attend events or court sessions during the day

  

What You’ll Gain:

  • In-depth knowledge of how fundraising, events, and donor engagement shape nonprofit sustainability
  • Shadowing opportunities with event planners, brand strategists, and executive leadership
  • Hands-on experience managing logistics for mission-centered events
  • Training in CRM platforms like Little Green Light, Greater Giving, and Constant Contact
  • Opportunities to contribute to marketing campaigns and steward donor relationships
  • A resume-building, meaningful experience in nonprofit event planning, community engagement, and mission-driven fundraising
  • Training in the Illinois Model for Comprehensive Assessment of Needs and Strengths (IM+CANS)
  • 40-Hour Domestic Violence Certification Training
