Job Description - Development Intern

Green Energy Consumers Alliance is a non-profit organization that enables people to make green energy choices in the most cost-effective, practical and seamless ways possible, and to advocate for energy policies that benefit the greater good. Our energy programs offer New Englanders: information on and help making the switch to electric cars; green electricity for homes, offices, and whole communities; efficient electricity & heating; and advocacy for climate-friendly energy policy. 


 


This internship specifically focuses on development and fundraising. This internship will provide the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of nonprofit development, including prospecting, drafting, and proofing grants, as well as cultivating donor relationships and assisting with other development activities. 
 


Internship responsibilities include:  



  • Conduct prospect research to identify potential grant opportunities aligned with our mission and programs; 



  • Assist in drafting compelling grant proposals and letters of inquiry, as well as proofreading and editing grant proposals; 



  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies to cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors; 



  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies to cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors; 



  • Provide general administrative support to the development team, including data entry, file management and help maintain donor database; and 



  • Other duties as assigned.  


 


Required Qualifications:  



  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn more about clean energy, public policy, and/or the nonprofit sector; 



  • Introductory experience with grants or fundraising, such as through coursework, internships, volunteer roles, class projects, or student organizations (for example: grant research, proposal drafting, or assisting with submissions); 



  • Strong research skills, including the ability to synthesize information from multiple sources; 



  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with attention to tone, clarity, and detail; 



  • Familiarity with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); 



  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to closely follow written procedures; 



  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with guidance and supervision. 


 


Eligible Candidates Include: 



  • Students or recent graduates of a college or a training program in Massachusetts, OR who are residents of Massachusetts. Prospective interns must also meet one (1) of the following:  



  • Students must have completed or will complete at least their freshman year of college the semester before the internship (24 Credits) or have graduated within the past year;  



  • If a student attends or attended a community college (or 2‐year associate program), the student must have completed at least 24 credits;   



  • If a student has attended a training program, that program must have been completed within the last year;  



  • If a student attends an out-of-state university, they must provide proof of Massachusetts residency; OR  



  • Graduate students must be currently enrolled in their program or have completed it within the last year.

This 12-week internship with negotiable hours will be conducted in a hybrid fashion, working both remotely and at least two days
a week from our office in Cambridge, MA. The session will start after
May 15, 2026, and end by August 31, 2026. The hours can be fulfilled around your schedule, but must be during
9am-6pm M-F. The pay is $22.00/hr.
The internship is contingent upon funding from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center.
