This role is specific to Students enrolled at St. John Fisher University. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. An Emergency Medical Technician will perform duties associated with providing emergency medical care to the sick and injured in accordance with all applicable laws, regional protocols, and organizational policies.

General Responsibilities
Must possess and apply knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of an Emergency Medical Technician - Basic, in a dignified and compassionate manner, including but not limited to:
Report to work at the scheduled time in an appropriate uniform, ready for work.
Record worked hours in accordance with organizational policy.
Respond to emergency calls in a professional and prompt manner, providing high quality patient care.
Communicate efficiently and professionally, in English, utilizing all forms of communication including radio transmissions via two-way radios.
Complete ambulance and first-response vehicle checks to assure units are stocked in accordance with NYS DOH regulations, and organizational policies.
Fuel and clean assigned vehicles(s) prior to the end of your shift, in accordance with organizational policies.
Always be prepared to take the next call
Report any day-to-day incidents, equipment malfunctions, or supply shortages to the on-duty supervisor or in their absence the on-call Chief prior to concluding each shift.
Maintain compliance with personal CME / training assignments and requirements
Perform assigned duties, tasks, and chores for each shift
Report any interpersonal conflicts to the on-duty Shift Supervisor or on-call Chief
Attend mandatory meetings
Maintain confidentiality of all patient, staff, and organizational matters, following all HIPAA regulations
Adhere to organizational, MLREMS, and NYS DOH standards for responding to emergencies, caring for and transporting patients, and completing required paperwork / documentation
Act as an ambassador of Pittsford Volunteer Ambulance, Inc. while on duty, and at public service functions, expositions, and other public events
Maintain compliance with all PVA guidelines, policies and expectations
Other duties as assigned

Be a team player. EMTs must be able to work well with both PVA personnel in addition to members/employees of other emergency services agencies and the community in general;
Be flexible. Assigned work schedules may vary, including the potential for late off-going times;
Demonstrate the ability to listen, and effectively present ideas and information;
Be able to handle a significant number of stressful situations;
Communicate with patients and others with empathy and respect;
Maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel within the medical community;
Work independently with minimal supervision for assigned tasks.
Education and Experience
Maintain current NYS EMT Certification
Maintain current AHA CPR for the Professional Rescuer, or equivalent
Maintain a clean NYS Driver’s license as defined by PVA’s Insurance Provider
Maintain Hazardous Materials, OSHA., ICS, and HIPAA Training
Participate in all other mandatory trainings as directed
Necessary Knowledge
Familiarity with NYS Article 30, Part 80, Part 800, and DOH Policy Statements
Thorough knowledge of the NYS DOH protocols, MLREMS REMAC protocols
Requires significant physical strength and dexterity, and the ability to function in very adverse environments with exposure to numerous safety risks
Must be able to physically achieve the functional position description of an EMT-B, as per NYS DOH Policy Statement 00-10
