Summer Youth Internship Program


As a result of taking part in the Summer Youth Internship Program, interns will gain authentic work experience and develop transferable skills while contributing to our mission to inspire a lifelong love of science in everyone. Please note that you must routinely work Wednesdays. Important Program Dates:





    • Onsite orientation: June 25th

    • Shifts begin: June 28th

    • Shifts end: August 16th





Why We Need You


Do you take things apart just to see how they work? Are your favorite things a school STEM class or robotics club? Have you ever thought about learning a trade? We only have one more question to ask. Ever wondered how museum exhibitions come to life? The Exhibit Operations Intern plays a key role behind the scenes—This hands-on internship offers the opportunity to work directly in gallery spaces, supporting the installation, care, and daily operation of exhibitions that educate and inspire the public. From preparing galleries for openings to ensuring exhibits look their best each day, the intern will gain real-world experience in museum operations while collaborating with creative and technical professionals within the Exhibits Research and Collections division. This is an ideal opportunity for someone eager to learn how exhibitions are installed, maintained, and brought to life in a dynamic museum environment.


 


What You’ll Accomplish



  • Monitor interactive exhibits throughout the Exhibit Halls and temporary galleries, identifying and resolving problems, and rebooting computers when necessary 

  • Perform routine maintenance of exhibits, including exhibit lighting, interactive exhibit stations, and exhibit cleanliness as supervised by a team member 

  • Identify repairs that require technical services and call the appropriate technician 

  • Make repairs as trained by the supervisor 

  • Work with the team during the installation and moving or exhibits.


 


What We’re Looking For (Competencies)



  • A creative individual that can think outside the box to assist in the diagnosis of exhibit problems.

  • An individual that shows pride in their work and tries to help with bringing new perspective.

  • An Individual that has a show level of comfort with certain hand tools and can read basic diagrams. As well as be of age to use Ladders and other equipment in a commercial setting as outlined by OSHA and our HR department.

  • An individual that is ready to learn not only how the exhibits work but how a service department operates.

  • A safety first individual that will ask questions before beginning working on an object.

  • A responsible team player that will integrate into the team, and has a general interest in the trades.

Salary Range

$15 - $15 USD
