Job Description - Fall 2026 Co-op - Clinical Analytical Development


Description

Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and creative Co-op to join our Clinical Analytical Development team in the Global Innovation department located in Athens, GA. The selected candidate will be responsible for generating high‑quality data to support vaccine and bio-therapeutic development. Contribute to the optimization and execution of cell‑based, viral, and bacterial assays used to evaluate product performance in clinical trials.  Work closely with multidisciplinary partners—including analytical scientists, clinicians, veterinarians, data analysts, and quality associates—to ensure robust characterization of host–pathogen interactions and to advance projects aimed at preventing and treating infectious diseases in companion and production animals.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Hands-on laboratory work in molecular biologly including but not limited to DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, and qRT-PCR.

  • Perform cell‑based assays to support viral titrations, immunofluorescence assays (IFA), and neutralization assays.

  • Maintain, passage, and troubleshoot diverse cell lines to ensure consistent assay performance and sterility.

  • Perform embryonated egg inoculation, incubation, and harvesting for influenza virus propagation, including allantoic cavity inoculation and aseptic handling of eggs at various developmental stages.

  • Actively participate in lab meetings with an open mind and eye for creative solutions across the portfolio of projects. Bring plausible solutions to the discussion.

  • Work in a collaborative manner with other analytical colleagues and functions within Global Innovation. Network within and outside of Global Innovation, including clinical teams.

  • Comply with all applicable regulations, perform all work in a safe manner and maintain proper records in accordance with SOP’s and policies.

Requirements


  • Students must be enrolled at an accredited college or university for the duration of the internship/co-op. Students in good academic standing, pursuing a degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related life science discipline are preferred.

  • Undergraduate students must have completed at least 12 credit hours at current college or university.

  • Graduate and advanced degree students must have completed at least 9 credit hours at current college or university.

  • Ability to develop sound scientific hypotheses and apply basic principles of experimental design to support analytical studies and method development.

  • Familiarity with molecular and cellular biology techniques, with the ability to apply these approaches to answer both basic and applied research questions.

  • Capacity to independently perform organismal, biochemical, and molecular assays, following established protocols and contributing to assay optimization when needed.

  • Hands-on laboratory skills, including aseptic technique, sample handling, and operation of standard analytical equipment.

  • Commitment to accurate, thorough, and compliant documentation, including maintaining high quality laboratory notebooks and electronic records.

  • Quick learner, enthusiast to learn new techniques.

  • Ability to follow SOPs, adhere to quality standards, and work effectively in a regulated clinical analytical environment.



Eligibility Requirements:



  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
